The band recently won MTVU / Garnier’s “I Want My Music On MTV” contest, earning them an appearance at MTV’s Woodie Awards, held last week in New York City. The band will be featured in the coverage of the Woodies, alongside the broadcast premiere of “We Love Like Vampires”, airing on MTV on December 4th. The band is currently finishing up their U.S. tour with Hit The Lights, promoting their new album Eyes To The Sun. Stay tuned for news about their tour plans for 2010, coming very soon!

Taking inspiration from bands such as Verse, Have Heart, Modern Life Is War, and Kings of Leon, Take It Back!’s sound strikes a chord of candor in this synthetic and often insincere industry, and honesty is what they aim for.

“We are tired of watching people around us live and die for nothing” says frontman Nick Thomas. Their lighthearted approach to life on the road and their fun, youth-crew sound belies the band’s willingness to take on a matter very dear to their hearts. “We are motivated by the unfortunate state of the world around us. We want to show people that there is a purpose for this life.” On their follow up release to Can’t Fight Robots Take It Back wear their heart on their sleeve as they chronicle the atrocities of an apathetic society.

Victor Gann has been an active guitarist for over 20 years, studying with the like of Andy Timmons, Paul Gilbert, and even the great Joe Satriani. All the years of experience have paid off in a big and glorious way, judging by what is heard on his new instrumental CD The Devil’s Been Busy. Yes, there is guitar hero stuff galore on here, but it’s conducted with extreme skill and finesse. Those ready to rock are in for quite an adventure when placing this disc into your player.

The opening title song will instantly grab your attention, and the compelling guitar work remains innovative throughout the entire recording. For Love is grand enough to be played on the airwaves while the mid-paced Beyond The Sun is an absolute thrill to the senses. Shannon and Victoria lighten things up greatly, demonstrating a smooth versatility to Gann’s creative guitar work as well as spoken samples from loved ones. Another standout is 06/06/44, an exciting track showing Gann as a true guitar virtuoso. A Walk With God shows a spiritual side to Gann’s gifted guitar work that is shimmering and vibrant.

The talented musicians helping Victor Gann to realize his visions are Thomas Hopper on bass guitar and Bruce Ryan on drums. Nik Woods is listed as the live rhythm guitar player. Here’s hoping Victor Gann and his band can tour sometime soon and show everyone what real rock and roll guitar work is all about.

THE PEOPLE OR THE GUN by ANTI-FLAG (Side One Dummy Records)

Bush might be gone out of office but the influence of anger and frustration still hits punk bands. Waves of anti government, fighting for the people and sticking up for the poor are still anthems of Anti-Flag, even with this CD. With such new songs as On Independence Day and The Old Guard, you feel disrespect and freedom from the regime of the old ways the Bush government was. The record is up to date though with the songs The Economy Is Suffering… Let It Die, We Are The One, and The Great Depression. Anti-Flag has been telling things like it is and this CD proves that. Based out of Redlands, CA, Sleeping Giant has unleashed to the metal masses an impressive collection of spiritual songs entitled Sons Of Thunder. One of the most sweeping and ambitious records to come out this year, Sons Of Thunder is a powerful, profoundly moving experience that will provoke both deep thought and a massive amount of head banging.

Gang Signs opens Sons Of Thunder on a gloriously brutal note, demonstrating right away why Sleeping Giant is so revered and respected by those in and out of the Christian metal scene. The title cut is a slower track with clean, impassioned vocals and is arguably the most dynamic song Sleeping Giant has ever committed to disc. I’ve Seen is another highlight showing how intensely passionate and musically imaginative Sleeping Giant can be. Confession is an ultra-heavy track screaming of forgiveness and redemption – guaranteed to send mosh pits into overdrive.

Closing out the disc is the calm and yet heartfelt He Will Reign, a lengthy track featuring keyboards and hymn-like vocals that will remain in the listener’s mind for a very long time. Destined to become an important release for the Christian metal scene and beyond, Sons Of Thunder by Sleeping Giant exudes an immense passion and maturity that is absolutely staggering. Expect this one to show up on a few Top Ten lists at year’s end.
