The Mighty Return of Black Tide
After a self-imposed hiatus following the exodus of two key band members, Black Tide has rolled back in with an all-out vengeance. Chasing Shadows is the name of their next great chapter, a thrilling collection of tunes showing Black Tide at the very height of their creative energies and ready to take on the world. We caught up with lead vocalist and guitarist Gabriel Garcia to find out more about the mighty return of Black Tide and the brand new album Chasing Shadows – out now via Pavement Entertainment. Read on…
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Black Tide, and how long the band has been together.
Hello I’m Gabriel Garcia of the band Black Tide, I play the guitar and sing for the group & we’ve been together since 2004.
Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like there?
Black Tide is based out of Miami Florida. The music scene here isn’t very good, not too many good music venues so the scene is pretty dead although I’m sure there is a ton of metal heads around!
Is there any story or concept behind the title Chasing Shadows?
The title “Chasing Shadows” comes from the fact that we acknowledge that we have been chasing this music dream for so long and that we know how hard it is to succeed in music yet we continue to strive for it every day.
Select two songs from Chasing Shadows and what inspired the lyrics.
Two of my favorite songs from Chasing Shadows would be “Guidelines” and the song “Welcome To Misery.” I picked these songs because they have similar concepts. “Guidelines” is a song about never conforming and always following your dreams and sticking with your gut and with your guns, never allowing anyone to tell you how to live your life. Then “Welcome To Misery” is a song about the polar opposite of “Guidelines” and it’s about being the person who conformed in life and who let their dreams be crushed and so it’s about the misery that comes with that.
Who did the artwork for Chasing Shadows and how much input did you have on it?
Helen Hebenton did the art for our new album “Chasing Shadows“. It was actually a very cool and different process for us. We let the fans submit their artwork for our new album just giving them the album title then we hand-picked Helen’s work so we really had no input in her art.
What could one expect from a live Black Tide show in 2015?
What people can expect from a live Black Tide show in 2015 is undeniable energy. The fact that we have this second shot at music with Pavement Entertainment & Rebellion Noise has us all feeling very rejuvenated and ready to get on that stage again every night.
With two long term members leaving the band, how easy or difficult has it been to continue on with Black Tide?
Being that Austin and I are the only two long term members actually makes it pretty easy when it comes to the studio and our roles and even touring.
How did Cody Paige become involved with Black Tide?
Cody page joined the band over a year ago now and it’s actually been a really cool thing for us because he was a fan from the outside and now he has brought that passion for the group to the inside so we’re all very happy with the lineup.
Any strange or scary happenings while on the road or at a show?
There haven’t been any really scary happenings on tour, it’s always just been an incredible time hanging out and meeting everyone we tour with.
If Black Tide could open up for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
If Black Tide could open for anyone I would say Guns ‘N Roses and Metallica 1990 cause that would just be fucking insane!
What’s up next Black Tide?
What’s next for black tide is touring, touring and more touring. Getting this record out there!
Any final words of wisdom?
My final words of wisdom are choose when to have pride, pick your battles and yet always fight for what you believe in a smart manner.
