Such a dramatic, eye-opening name from a faith based collective, and My Heart To Fear definitely live up to their epic moniker. Based out of the same area that spawned such notables as August Burns Red and This Or The Apocalypse, fully expect My Heart To Fear to be the next entity to place Williamsport, PA on the music map. After several DIY releases, My Heart To Fear now find themselves added to the Solid State Records roster of talent. Their first label effort is a staggering EP entitled Lost Between Brilliance and Insanity, a short collection of powerhouse tunes destined to garner the band a good deal of attention and respect. The recording excels, with uncompromising lyrics about maintaining faith in this very real and changing world we all inhabit, combined with musical interludes that will pummel the senses.
“Why do we paint the walls of our churches with the tears of the starving children,” begin the lyrics to Blood Money, a scathing look at greed and lack of compassion within a the church system. Combined with the super intensive music, this tracks grabs the listener by the throat, providing a whole lot to contemplate about modern day religion. “Where is your heart?” the lyrics scream out with a fiery conviction toward the end of the piece.
Life Under The Stairs is up next, another hard-hitting track about finding love of the earthly kind. “I want to fall in love before the end of the world,” frontman Trevor Pool screams with a vibrant, heart-wrenching passion. Asking the heavenly father for advice on this while revealing a fear of dying alone, many will be able to relate to this deeply personal song.
“I fear no man!” is the triumphant proclamation contained within Legends Never Die – a future genre classic whose spiraling “Family. Faith. Pride. Brotherhood.” chorus is one of the most memorable moments on the EP. Expect this one to ignite fevered mosh pits when performed live.
Dear Mr. White places the pedal to the metal, complete with a wondrously melodic chorus rendering this one another glorious stand out. Lost Between Brilliance and Insanity then closes with the heavy yet ominous strains of The Witching Hour. The guitar work is especially dynamic and heroic while the vocals remain as inspiring as ever. “We watch you in your sleep,” are the concluding words to be heard on the EP, reverberating through your head and leaving a rather enduring impression.
The musicianship found within My Heart To Fear is tight and resourceful, featuring the participation of Trevor Pool on lead vocals, Dale Upright on lead guitar, Jay Graham on rhythm guitar, Taylor Pool on bass and synths, and Luke Brady on drums. With an EP that is nothing short of mesmerizing in tow, expect the hard working My Hear To Fear to finally take off into the big leagues. An exciting testament of faith that extreme music fans will want to revisit time and again, Lost Between Brilliance and Insanity will surely make you want to take on the world at large!
