DEBUT U.S. SINGLE “VEGAS GIRL” DUE IN JULY; LEAD-OFF TRACK FROM UPCOMING ALBUM CONTRAST TO BE RELEASED ON SEPTEMBER 18TH
June 11, 2012 — New York, NY — EMI Music is pleased to announce that it will be releasing 19-year-old British singer and songwriter Conor Maynard’s debut album Contrast via Capitol Records in the US on September 18th. Conor has already created a buzz in his home country with the debut single “Can’t Say No,” which shot to No. 2 on the UK Singles chart in April and will follow with a highly anticipated July release of the album. In July, Capitol Records will release his debut US single “Vegas Girl,” which is the lead-off track from Conor’s upcoming album.
Hailing from the British seaside town of Brighton, Conor grew up listening to such artists as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Usher, and Justin Timberlake. He began uploading videos of himself singing his favorite songs to YouTube in 2008. Encouraged by the positive response they received, he posted a range of hits that showcased his soulful voice, including Chris Brown’s “Crawl,” (which Brown raved about when he tweeted the link), “Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite,” Rihanna’s “Only Girl,” and Ne-Yo’s “Beautiful Monster,” which racked up millions of views. Both Ne-Yo and Taio were so impressed with Conor’s performance that, separately, they contacted Conor at home in the UK and offered to produce and sign him.
That offer has come to fruition over the past few months as Conor has been in the studio working with Ne-Yo, as well as Pharrell Williams, Jermaine Dupri (Usher, Mariah Carey), Midi Mafia (50 Cent, Frank Ocean), Kevin Rudolf (Jay Sean, Lil’ Wayne), Sandy Vee (Rihanna, Pitbull), Crada (Drake, Kid Cudi), and songwriter Diane Warren. After spending time in a Miami studio with Conor, Pharrell Williams predicted: “This kid will change the future of pop music.” Earlier this year, Conor won MTV UK’s “Brand New For 2012” Award (beating out such artists as Lana Del Rey) thanks to overwhelming voter support from his fans, who call themselves “Mayniacs.” With +64 million YouTube views (including 8.7 million for “Can’t Say No”), Conor has the seventh most subscribed music channel in the UK. He has also amassed 405,000 Facebook “likes” and more than 285,000 Twitter followers.
