COBALT CAFE IS CONSIDERING CLOSING DOWN END OF DECEMBER

cobaltbooking1Dave Polito, owner of the iconic all ages Cobalt Cafe in Canoga Park, CA has issued the following statement regarding the future of the club. Please read and support! We need this club!!!

“PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT: COBALT CAFE IS CONSIDERING CLOSING DOWN END OF DECEMBER ..

IN THE 23 years I’VE OWNED THE COBALT . I’ve never had such a bad year ..

Is it the economy? Maybe..

is the music scene non existent? Seems like it ..

Is the cobalt a dive? Yes.. but that’s what it’s all about .. Cobalt is a unconventional business.. a sort of a underground/ basement .. FOR MUSIC /ART/POETRY

WITHOUT BEING supported by serving alcohol..

My concept was always to have a place where young minds can come and be creative and discuss issues with their peers .. I want my creative customers and bands to feel comfortable .. I don’t require presale no contracts.. I give ALL bands a chance to play ..

I pay bands ..

But lately .. I’m not getting the support from promoters/bands… especially when i get canceled on the day of the show or two weeks before their date .. When PROMOTERS/ bands been holding a date for two months advance.. It’s been very disheartened

But I would like to Thank all the Bands/ promoters and especially the FANS who did do their part and supported the music scene the last 23 years ..

It’s been very hard for me the last 4 years emotionally and physically to keep the cobalt alive ..

I WANT TO KEEP THE COBALT ALIVE ..

SO IM REACHING OUT TO YOU .. THE FANS .. THE BANDS ..THE PROMOTERS PLEASE KEEP THE SCENE ALIVE .. Call/text 818 929-9012 to book December .. Fundraisers a benefit show ..

Thanks for reading
Cobalt Dave”

I really hope that this cafe does not close down. I am almost 23 years old and have been enjoying music here since I was in middle school. My personal taste is more in metal and, in the past years, it seems cobalt has mostly catered to more of the hardcore crowed. I am not biased because I do like my share of hardcore as well. Lately it seems that the cobalt only plays one genre of music, for the most part. It lacks in diversity to some extent and maybe that is due to the promoters and what is the biggest in “the scene” right now. Regardless, I hope the cafe remains open and I will continue to support this venue as long as it remains in business. Thank you Dave!
