ALIVE LIKE ME

alivelikepomona1Introduce yourself, what you do in yout band, and where you are based out of?
This is Jairus Kersey, I sing in the band and I was born in Eugene along with the band.

What are you looking forward to the most about Warped Tour and is this your first time on the tour?
We have made a ton of friends this year on the road and we can’t wait to see them all again and hangout. This is our second year. I’m very happy excited to see how our fan base has grown.

If this is not your first time on Warped Tour, what advice would you give a band about to attempt Warped for the first time?
Make sure you’re mentally prepared for the highs and lows that it brings. Remember no matter the stress to stay positive and have fun.

What could one expect from your live show at Warped Tour?
You’re going to see a lot of passion. We write our music together as a band and you’d be surprised how rare that really is. We care so much about the quality of our shows.

What is the name of your latest or upcoming CD or EP and what inspired the title?
Only Forever was our debut album that was released in October 2014. We named it that almost as a sarcastic comment trying to stress the fact that we have this one. life. And we should live it exactly how we want. After you’re gone it’s “only forever

Select two songs you may be playing in your set and what inspired the lyrics
Our time down here: My relationship with my parents when I was younger and how it was difficult for them to understand who I was and what I wanted to be. And not “following the path” they thought I should.

Searching For Endings: My struggles of growing up Christian and being torn on what to believe as I got older and was able to make my own decisions.

How are you going to feel about playing those infamous 11:30 AM Warped Tour slots?
We have been asked this before. And the answer will always be this: ITS STILL WARPED TOUR! We have worked so hard for this to become reality it doesn’t matter what time we play.

Any strange or unusual happenings in the past while out on the road?
The strangest thing is probably when you see 6 or 7 grown men traveling around the country in a short bus… It’s hard to be shocked by much of anything after that haha.

If you could open up for any band, either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
Paramore has always been a big influence along with The Used.

Get ready for the best day of your life!

AMERICAN OPERA

americanopera2015Introduce yourself, what you do in your band, and where you are based out of?
My name is John and I play in American Opera. I write the songs, I play all of the instruments on the recordings, I perform the songs, I book the shows, I drive me to the shows, I sell the merch, etc. I’m based out of Brooklyn, NY but I grew up in Michigan.

What are you looking forward to the most about Warped Tour and is this your first time on the tour?
I’m most looking forward to performing but I can’t wait to watch all of the other sweet acts. I’m not too familiar with a lot of the bands so I’m pumped to find out what they’re all about. I can’t wait to meet all of the Warped fans, crew, and bands. This is my first time doing the whole tour and I am so excited that I could head-butt myself.

What could one expect from your live show at Warped Tour?
Sing alongs, spur of the moment improvisation, special guests, and more! The last time that I played the Vans Warped Tour a couple got engaged on stage while I was performing. That was super rad.

What is the name of your latest or upcoming CD or EP and what inspired the title?
My forthcoming album is entitled “Small Victories” and it was inspired by the little things in life that keep pushing you forward even though life often sets you back.

How are you going to feel about playing those infamous 11:30 AM Warped Tour slots?
Super pumped. It doesn’t matter to me if I’m playing at 11:30 AM or 6 PM. I’m fortunate enough to be on the tour so I’ve got nothing to complain about.

Any strange or unusual happenings in the past while out on the road?
All the time. On the first American Opera tour I was on my way home after 4 weeks on the road. I got pulled over for speeding. I was going 70 in a 55. My bad. Then it got weird.

The cop had coke bottle glasses and his eyes were super big and super crossed. I instantly felt like I was on a prank reality TV show. He looked like Bubbles from The Trailer Park Boys. He asked for my license and insurance and asked if they were current. They were.

He came back 5 minutes later and started questioning me.

“When are you going to start telling me the truth, son?” He said.

“I am telling you the truth.” I said.

He started swearing at me and yelling louder.

“You are lying. Your license has been suspended for 3 years and your insurance isn’t current. It says right here that you are in jail!” He said.

This was news to me. I’ve never had a ticket, never been to jail, and I currently was in jail. So I was pretty surprised.

“I’m not lying, sir. I’ve never been to jail. My license is current and so is my insurance. Plus I’m not in jail.” I said.

He put me in the back of the cop car and asked if I could call someone to get my car because we were going to jail. I was pretty excited! I had never been to jail before and I was really excited to see how embarrassed this guy was going to be when he realized he had the wrong guy.

After about 90 minutes of arguing back and forth, I finally exploded in laughter.

“Just read me the name you have on your screen, sir. I’m positive that you have the wrong name.” I said.

He gets really mad. Curses me out again. And then he screams, “ARE YOU NOT THOMAS J. BURNS?!?!?!?!”

I start laughing hysterically. And I made a really funny noise that I can’t really explain. “NO!” I exclaimed. “I am not Thomas J. Burns. I am John Thomas Bonham.”

He was super embarrassed. Yelled at me again. And let me go.

If you could open up for any band, either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
Modest Mouse. I love that band. They are one of my favorites. I would also love to open for Cursive again. They are my favorite band.

Do you have any messages for Warped Tour attendees this year?
Drink lots of water, wear lots of sunscreen, don’t be mean, see as many bands as you can, and have fun. You never know, your new favorite band could be right in front of your face.

Introduce yourself, what you do in your band, and where you are based out of?
Hi I’m Cheska and I’m playing with A+ Dropouts on Warped Tour, we’re from Huntington Beach, CA!

What are you looking forward to the most about Warped Tour and is this your first time on the tour?
This is my first time on tour and I’m excited to meet new people and to see other bands everyday 😀

What could one expect from your live show at Warped Tour?
One can expect a lot of interaction live because I wanna make sure everyone in the audience is having us much fun as we are onstage.

What is the name of your latest or upcoming CD or EP and what inspired the title?
I am currently in the studio recording. One is called “Hypochondriac” and it was inspired by being terrified of oneself because the mind can play some crazy tricks on you. Another one is called “Animals” which was inspired by crazy internal energy of wanting to break out of confinement in a reckless manner. I am also writing and recording some songs with Tim Armstrong that we hope to release soon.

How are you going to feel about playing those infamous 11:30 AM Warped Tour slots?
I’m super grateful to be on the tour so any time slot would be a great one for me. I am planning on working really hard to connect with as many people as I can before the set. Regardless of the time, it’s gonna be fun for sure.

Any strange or unusual happenings in the past while out on the road?
I was playing in the Philippines with my band and we were dressed in normal shorts, flip flops, super Californian attire. Apparently that breaks the dress code of some hotel restaurants there because we got kicked out. There was a sign out front that said all the things you couldn’t wear which included robes and sandals…..So we went to our rooms, put on robes and sandals, and walked back down to see some very weirded out faces.

If you could open up for any band, either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
I would love to go on tour with All Time Low because I love their music but I’ve never gotten to see them live yet. I hear they’re incredible live and touring will ensure that I get to see a couple of their sets haha.

Introduce yourself, what you do in the band, and where you are based out of?
I’m Vlad Holiday, I sing in Born Cages. We’re from New York City.

What are you looking forward to the most about Warped Tour and is this your first time on the tour?
Looking forward to playing for new people and showing them what we’re all about. It’s our first time playing the festival.

What could one expect from your live show at Warped Tour?
Our songs are always written with the live aspect in mind. If we get energy from the crowds, there’s gonna be energy on stage. We’re also the only band on the tour that plays our kind of music, so people should come watch our set if things get too monotonous and they wanna try something different.

What is the name of your latest or upcoming CD or EP and what inspired the title?
I’m Glad I’m Not Me is our debut full length album, coming out June 2nd, just before the tour kicks off. The title was inspired by an old Bob Dylan documentary on his 1965 UK tour.

Select two songs you may be playing in your set and what inspired the lyrics.
I Just Want The Truth, Baby was inspired by a celebrity crush – the song’s about sex. And Bigger Than Me was inspired by a fan’s suicide attempt. While one comes from a darker place and one is more light-hearted, I think both reflect very important human emotions.

How are you going to feel about playing those infamous 11:30 AM Warped Tour slots?
It is what it is. We should probably have a special set planned for those days where the first half is just Hall and Oates covers.

Any strange or unusual happenings in the past while out on the road?
We’ve gotten into fights with people that ended in rabies shots, we’ve fallen asleep on trains…I dunno, it’s always unpredictable.

If you could open up for any band, either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
I’d open up for The Beatles in their hay day. We’d probably wear the same suits. And for a split second, before the audience caught on, we would know what it all felt like.

Do you have any messages for Warped Tour attendees this year?
Come early, come hang, watch Born Cages’ set.

BOYMEETSWORLD

11215852_875529222519476_5663440381900755815_nIntroduce yourself, what you do in the band, and where you are based out of?
I’m Drew Richter, I play guitar and write some of the songs, and BoyMeetsWorld is a band based out of Cincinnati, Ohio.

What are you looking forward to the most about Warped Tour and is this your first time on the tour?
Just getting out there and meeting tons of new people, as well as hanging out in an awesome environment all summer. We were on the tour last year but more as workers than an actual band. However, we still met tons of new people and had an amazing time. We wouldn’t be on this year if it weren’t for the experience.

If this is not your first time on Warped Tour, what advice would you give a band about to attempt Warped for the first time?
Get rid of any hesitance in using copious amounts of AC early on. Also, get ready for some cardio.

What could one expect from your live show at Warped Tour?
A lot of energy. We like to make the extra effort to make sure people watching us aren’t tempted to lookaway.

What is the name of your latest or upcoming CD or EP and what inspired the title?
It’s called “Become Someone“. The title comes from one of the tracks of our songs, but we just think it represents the artwork really well, as well as the overall theme of making your way in adulthood.

Select two songs you may be playing in your set and what inspired the lyrics.
I’ll go with one song I wrote and one Craig wrote but I have a good grasp on the message.

Where This Road Leads” – This song is about the conflict of wanting to do something with your life that isn’t exactly “play it safe”, but you know is what you really want. It’s a about the anxiety of not meeting expectations opposing the fiery determination of pursuing your dreams, and the confidence that if you believe in what you’re doing, the rest will work itself out. This song was a single and is on our new album

Right Where We Belong” – This song is kind of our anthem. It’s about cherishing your close friends and the times you have together, and never letting go of them. To us this is one of the most important things in life. This song was arguably the most well known from our debut EP.

How are you going to feel about playing those infamous 11:30 AM Warped Tour slots?
After getting up at 6:00 AM to do catering and promote ourselves all last summer, nothing is too early for us anymore.

Any strange or unusual happenings in the past while out on the road?
We’re pretty strange people, so anything that’s strange for us usually means it’s pretty inappropriate for a public interview. While I can think of a few good standouts, they might be a little much. Sorry for a cop out answer haha.

If you could open up for any band, either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
Glassjaw, cause they never play anymore and they’re one of my favorite bands.

Do you have any messages for Warped Tour attendees this year?
Have a great time, stay hydrated, and come check out our set!

THE KARMA KILLERS

karmakillers1Introduce yourself, what you do in the band, and where you are based out of?
Hey I’m Micky and I sing for The Karma Killers, I’m Billy I play guitar and sing. I’m Mango and I play bass, and I’m Josh I play drums. We’re all based out of New Jersey.

What are you looking forward to the most about Warped Tour and is this your first time on the tour?
I think we’re most excited about getting to travel the country and play music everyday for a bunch of kids interested in hearing new bands, because this is in fact our first time on the tour. –Billy

What could one expect from your live show at Warped Tour?
Someone could expect to get turned on to something new, something exciting. Because that’s what our band is when we’re on stage. Yes we’re a rock band, an alternative band and new wave, but we’re so much more than a genre. You have to come check us out to understand what I’m saying. -Billy

What is the name of your latest or upcoming CD or EP and what inspired the title?
Our new EP will be out early June, right before the tour starts. It’s entitled “Strange Therapy”. The title was inspired by the journey that led us to where we are as a band and as individuals today. Finding ourselves as artists and as people. As a band trying to carve our own path in NYC and striving to have that DIY mentality for 2 and half years. It started to become stale to us and took a toll on our mental state of mind (as a band) We locked ourselves in our rehearsal space and our rooms writing for about a year…and that eventually got us recognition to sign a production deal with Dirty Canvas Music. From that moment on we were still writing constantly. Locked in the studio for six months. It’s felt like purgatory for the first three years of the group.
-Micky

Select two songs you may be playing in your set and what inspired the lyrics.
My personal favorite songs from our set would be “Domino” and “My Killer Queen

Domino was inspired by the feeling of temptation. Giving love a try but it never working out for me in the end.

My Killer Queen came about by the idea of love and regret. The story about chasing a big city dream and feeling an immense amount of regret of leaving someone that was so valuable and “right” to him behind….. Believing that person could find something better. Then began realizing what he had all along was everything he ever needed. -Micky

How are you going to feel about playing those infamous 11:30 AM Warped Tour slots?
Well we’re definitely not what you would call morning people, but just the fact that this is our “job” and we’re getting up to play music makes all the morning pains go away. –Billy

Any strange or unusual happenings in the past while out on the road?
Besides heading to Texas in March for South by South West the band really hasn’t toured. With that being said there haven’t been many unusual happenings but I’m sure we’ll have plenty of stories by the time summer ends. -Billy

If you could open up for any band, either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
That’s a really tough question, there are so many great artists and bands that have influenced us but one band popped to mind. I would love to open for The Strokes. Their music and songwriting has had a big impact on myself and especially Micky. The other guys love them as well. And the fact that we both came out of the New York City club scene means a lot to me. –Billy

Introduce yourself, what you do in your band, and where you are based out of?
My name is Kaya Stewart and I’m a solo artist. I’m based out of Los Angeles, CA.

What are you looking forward to the most about Warped Tour and is this your first time on the tour?
This is my second ever tour (my first was High School Nation this past Spring), and my first time at Warped Tour. I’m excited to perform for a new crowd that I’m not used to performing in front of.

What could one expect from your live show at Warped Tour?
My live show has a lot of energy and excitement. I love playing live music to a live audience, and I feel like that really shows through in my show.

What is the name of your latest or upcoming CD or EP and what inspired the title?
My upcoming album is called “KAYA STEWART”. I decided to call it that because it’s my first album and I wanted to make a statement by using my first name.

Select two songs you may be playing in your set and what inspired the lyrics.
In Love With a Boy is my single that’s out right now on iTunes and Spotify. I was actually sitting in math class thinking about a boy that I really liked, and ended up writing it while I was in class. I think it’s a very relatable song because a lot of people feel the same way about a person that I felt while I was writing it.

Try It Out is another song I’ll be playing in the set. It’s a song that is about being a new artist in the music industry, as well as being young and me wanting to explore life and my music.

How are you going to feel about playing those infamous 11:30 AM Warped Tour slots?
During this past tour, I actually played to high schoolers during their school day. Since there were times that I had to play at 9am, and had to do question and answer sessions even earlier than that, I feel like it was good training to be able to play a show at any time of day and still give it my all and have fun.

Any strange or unusual happenings in the past while out on the road?
We recently went to Las Cruces, New Mexico on tour and our band made a stop at a gas station. We all bought fireworks and lit them at the hotel and it was so much fun.

If you could open up for any band, either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
I would really love to open for Fiona Apple because she is one of my favorite singer songwriters and I think we have a really similar writing style. Since we both started off our careers really young, her life and her songs really relate to me.

Do you have any messages for Warped Tour attendees this year?
I try and play every show like it’s my last show – and I really want the audience to come out and have a great time and live in the moment while they’re watching me. I’d really want them to have as much fun as possible during the show.

MALLORY KNOX

46e26066-98af-4100-8e47-fe7bb1cf5a8eIntroduce yourself, what you do in the band, and where you are based out of?
I am Mikey Chapman, lead singer of Mallory Knox We are from Cambridge in the United Kingdom

What are you looking forward to the most about Warped Tour and is this your first time on the tour?
In the UK, the American Warped Tour is something most people can only admire from afar. So to be invited onto Warped for the first time is a real dream come true for us but as fans and musicians. I cant wait to explore each day on tour and meet loads of new people!

What could one expect from your live show at Warped Tour?
Being from the UK, and having toured recently in the US, I feel like we have a slightly different way of doing things to bands over here in the states. We’ll show you how we like to do things in the UK for sure.

What is the name of your latest or upcoming CD or EP and what inspired the title?
Our newest release, Asymmetry, is a body of music we are really proud of. It encapsulates for us our lives in the ever changing world of music that we find ourselves in and laments the losses of loved ones and aspects of our lives as a result. We are the same people but not, our lives are the same when we go home, but at the same time slightly askew. That’s where the title Asymmetry comes from

Select two songs you may be playing in your set and what inspired the lyrics.
We will be playing a song from Asymmetry called ‘Shout at the Moon’ which we love to play live. Its about that period between being asleep and awake, where you toss and turn for what seems like hours at night while you contemplate life, whether that be something you are dreading or just thinking of someone you miss. Shout at the Moon is about clearing your head of these things.

Dying to Survive’ is a song I hope makes it into our set at Warped. Its as close to a protest song as we have ever gotten to as a band and I love its message. The lyrics are about a time when the good people of society will take back control of their lies from those that only wish to abuse us for their own gains. I take quite a lot of pleasure singing the words to this song!

How are you going to feel about playing those infamous 11:30 AM Warped Tour slots?
What better way to start the day than with some rock music, right?! I have been told they can be brutal, and ill definitely need a cup of tea or something, but we are up to the challenge. I just hope the crowds are too!

Any strange or unusual happenings in the past while out on the road?
No so much strange but definitely of worth. We got stranded in the Alps in Europe at the end of last year for over 30 hours while various people tried to locate us and get us back on the road. The real problem was that is was so cold we had to stay in the bus for pretty much the whole time with no power, and very little to do besides go a little mad. I think we all came out of that journey a little more unusual than how we went in….

If you could open up for any band, either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
I think universally for us it would have to be Foo Fighters. Not only do they write some of the best songs, but they seem like true gentlemen too, you could really learn a lot touring with a band like them. The crowds would be pretty sweet too!

Do you have any messages for Warped Tour attendees this year?
If you caught us out on the road with Sleeping With Sirens, Pierce the Veil and PVRIS earlier this year you’ll know how stoked we are to be playing again for you folks across the pond! We will be hanging out and soaking up the atmosphere so please come down and say hey!
