Dead Silence Hides My Cries: Adventures In Epic-Core

deadsilence2Based out of Belarus, a country which borders Russia and The Ukraine, Dead Silence Hides My Cries is a sonic discovery well worth seeking out.  Describing their music as “epic-core,” the collective was recently signed to Artery Recordings here in the States.  Their debut for the label The Symphony Of Hope was recently unleashed, a stunning collection of progressive metalcore with classical influences throughout.  In the midst of relocating here to the States, Dead Silence Hides My Cries is an imaginative band ready and willing to take on the world at large.  Here is a recent interview we conducted with founding member Matvei Fedorenchik to find out more about this exciting new band on the rise.  The musical adventure commences now…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Dead Silence Hides My Cries, and how long the band has been together.
I am the founder and songwriter of the band Matvey. I used to be a singer, but now I play bass.  What I do in the band?  Oh, it’s easier to tell what I don’t. I don’t record guitars and some people help me with lyrics and programming. And everything else is done by me.  The band is the most precious thing for me, after my family. This is my life! Actually the band is not full now, so we are looking for two members in the USA . And with some dudes I play for 2-3 years.

Where is the band based out of and what is the music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We live in Belarus, but we plan to move to the states for tours. There we will realise ourselves as a band better. Here we have lots of local bands (I will speak for all ex USSR), but there are only a few ready to struggle in the USA. One of them is Oceans Red (ex Make Me Famous).

Is there any story or concept behind the CD title The Symphony Of Hope?
Definitely there is. We chose this title because of our hope to sign the contract with a label. Hope for tours and things like that. We didn’t have any tours here. This is every band’s dream.

Select two songs from The Symphony Of Hope and what inspired the lyrics?
Who Are You, Mr. Brooks?” was inspired by a movie. “Rest in Peace, My Friend” is dedicated to my grandmother, who I lived with for more than 20 years.

What made you decide to cover Halo and do you know if Beyonce has heard or commented on it?
I think Beyonce has more serious things to do.  We decided to make the cover because the song is very good and the arrangement for it is just awesome. Also covers give a lot of experience for me. There are some things to learn about creating songs. Besides, I love pop music, but only qualitative.

thesymphony1Being from Belarus, how did you wind up signing to Artery Recordings?
Finding a label for our country is like an exploit and it wasn’t easy. I’ve learned all structure of this music and was trying to reach every important person to recognise us. In the end we managed to contact Sumerian Records, Standby Records and Artery. We are very thankful to the guys for risking to take us in their family. Especially Mike and Eric.

Who did the cover art for The Symphony Of Hope and how much input did you have on it?
The artwork was done by our homie. Her works are known as Any Artworks.

Has Dead Silence Hides My Cries ever toured here in the States or plans to do so in future days?
No, we have never toured before.  However we plan to start making Visas and are looking for the missing members for our band.  We would really love to come to USA.

What could one expect from a live Dead Silence Hides My Cries show?
It would be a pretty epic show. If we will be given Visa, we’ll be working hard on it. We will make special outfits and stuff to deliver our epicness to the audience as much as possible.

Any strange or scary happenings while out on the road or at a show?
Thank God there was nothing serious, besides being hit with electricity. We played in some stuffy halls. And a few times we crawled on the scene being very drunk. However it was in the past and it wasn’t serious, I think.

Will The Wretched Symphony being re-released in the States through Artery?
One day, maybe, but not now. I’m now working on the new stuff for the new album.

If you could open for any band either now or from the past, what band would it be and why?
Oh, I’d love to share the stage with a lot of bands, I’ll tell the ones that came to my head first: 30 Seconds To Mars, Bring Me the Horizon, Linking Park, Korn, As I Lay Dying… All these bands influenced me a lot.

What’s up next for Dead Silence Hides My Cries?
1) Search for the remaining members for the band. 2) New Album. 3) Tours.

Any final words of wisdom?
Follow your dreams against all odds, and they will come true.
