destructionpic2Based out of the notorious City Of Sin, Destruction Of A Rose takes the metalcore sound and literally makes it their own. Suspended In Time has just been released on Standby Records, and the sounds emitting from the disc clearly show that DOAR are indeed a force of metal to be reckoned with. Now DOAR plan to travel across the country so everyone could see their memorable live shows. Jump on the wrecking ball now and witness the devastration…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Destruction Of A Rose, and how long the band has been together.
My name is Evan Foxx and I am the vocals in the band, and we have been together for about 8 months as a whole, but the band itself has been around about 5 years or so.

What has it been like growing up in Vegas and forming a band with the casinos as a glitzy backdrop?
It’s been cool; never thought about that really, but it’s given us some cool conversation and definitely some sweet ass venues to play at.

Are you friends with any other Vegas bands such as Escape The Fate or The Higher?
I’m actually friends with both, more so with Max from Escape The Fate; we are pretty close, but the guys in The Higher have also been good friends and I’ve known them for a while. I’ve partied hard with all of them, LOL.

How have the members of DOAR been adapting to touring and what are the best and worst parts about being on the road?
We’re adapting pretty well. We kind of just threw ourselves in the lion’s den and did it. The best is definitely the traveling and getting to see a new place everyday, and the worst is just being homesick and wanting your own bed and a shower…you make lots of cool new friends on the road, so it’s ok to deal with most of the time.

Where did you find your new drummer and what other bands has be performed with in the past?
Our guitarist Nick went to high school with him, and they just ran into each other and he kinda just fell into our laps. He has toured with a lot of bands like Killswitch and Slayer, and been a part of Otep and Hemlock. He was also a drummer for the Blue Man Group back home in Vegas… he’s a badass.

What was it like recording your new CD at Lambesis Studios and what did As I Lay Dying member Tim Lambesis contribute to the overall recording process?
It was fucking awesome!! One of the best experiences ever by far. All the guys there: Kelly “Carnage” Cairns, Daniel Castleman, and Tim are all so educated and good at what they do; we couldn’t ask for a better team. Tim had his hand in everything really – he was there to give advice, helped track, hung out, and ultimately partnered with Daniel in the mastering and production, I love all those guys, they did a great job, and we’ll always go back.

Is there any story or concept behind the new CD title Suspended In Time?
I basically wrote each song with different emotions and each song has it’s own feeling or story. Whether it be an angry, happy, sad, fantasy, or party themed song, the idea was to get lost in the music and become “suspended in time.”

Where did you get the ideas of the lyrics on the new CD? Please cite two songs off the new CD and what they are about.
All of the ideas come from my crazy-ass head, they’re all different stories and for the most part they can relate to the masses. Under Black Flags We Sail is about just bottom-line feeling like nobody cares and nothing you do will ever please anyone, but telling that person or people that you will never give up or fail and will push forward until you come out on top. Elixir Vitae is just about vampires and specifically about the story of countess Elizabeth Bathory. I’ve got an obsession with vampires, always have; and that’s just her story of draining youth of their blood, literally, and bathing in it and such to keep her looking and feeling young. BRUTAL!!

Describe a live DOAR show for those who have yet to see you play.
Our live show is very intense and very heavy, I feel like our music gets a lot heavier when we play it live. I’m a maniac and so is the rest of the band, and we like a lot of energy, I usually leave the stage with some kind of injury, hahaha.

What do you think has set DOAR apart from the many other metalcore bands out there?
We have a unique style and sound; we just like to mix all of our favorite kinds of music and make it become one song or sound. We’re not afraid of southern riffs or pop-punk; we’ll throw it at you, and never think twice. We’ve also got a strong work ethic. I think a lot of bands get a certain level of comfort at a certain stage in their career and just stop working. We won’t be doing that; we’re not stopping until we hit the very top, and then create a whole new level of “the top”.

What kind of touring do you plan to do for the rest of the year?
We plan to tour the rest of the year a lot! We have a slow month of August, and then it’s full force ahead!!! Full US tours and with amazing bands! Hopefully some really big stuff next year, while writing new material the whole time!

What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most after hearing your new CD?
Our fresh and heavy sound – I think we’re going to get people excited about metal again! A lot if it just sounds the same nowadays. We definitely get the pit going, but you can also sing along at times… so pick up the album, learn the lyrics and come to a show!!!! You won’t be disappointed.
