Metal Blade Records set to release second full-length album from the Jersey-based band comprised of vocalist Ron Scalzo, guitarist Brett Aveni, and drummer Chris Pennie

AGOURA HILLS, Calif. – March 11, 2010 – Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of Jersey-based aggressive hard rock outfit RETURN TO EARTH featuring the talents of Ron Scalzo, Brett Aveni, and Chris Pennie (current drummer of Coheed & Cambria and former drummer of The Dillinger Escape Plan). RETURN TO EARTH has already finished writing and recording Automata, the follow-up to the band’s 2007 debut Captains of Industry, and is set to release the behemoth this summer.

RETURN TO EARTH comments; “After self-releasing our first album, Captains of Industry, and discovering a heavier, more intense sound during the recording sessions for Automata, the three of us agreed that the scope of the band’s vision would benefit from the support of a bigger, like-minded record label – one that had similar musical influences and an appreciation for our DIY ’studio geek’ mentality. Also, a label we felt we could trust and depend upon to promote our songs properly. Metal Blade was always at the top of our very short wish list of potential partners, and so we were thrilled to discover that Brian Slagel and Metal Blade were as enamored with us as we were with them. Signing with Metal Blade is an affirmation of our hard work, and we are psyched to have them in our corner for the release of Automata!”

Brian Slagel adds; “I have been a big fan of Chris Pennie for a long time and we all at Metal Blade are very excited to work with Chris and the rest of RETURN TO EARTH.”

RETURN TO EARTH’s music is highlighted by the awe-inspiring precision of Pennie’s backbeat, Aveni’s catchy rock hooks, and Scalzo’s sing-and-scream, harmony-heavy vocals. Explains Scalzo, “We’re all passionate about music, and have a shared affinity for classic metal & modern-day rock with lush production. We’re three guys with three different perspectives but you can hear all those influences in our own tunes, loud & clear.” As with all great bands, when RETURN TO EARTH make music together, the disparate influences and personalities coalesce into a single vision. Adds Scalzo, “Most of all, we each draw inspiration from the other guys’ strengths – whether a riff, a rhythm line, or a vocal hook – it doesn’t take much to ignite our respective fires, and that usually culminates in something heavy, different, and ultimately, inspirational. We’re all really proud of this record.”

The band formed in 2006 and released an EP (“Harmonies From Bleeding Mouths“) that year, and released their first full-length, “Omega Drunk On The Blood Of Alpha” in 2008 on Debello Recordings. They’re currently recording their PROSTHETIC debut. Their sound has been referred to as “funeral grind,” as it’s “too slow for grindcore, too fast for doom,” and have been compared to the likes of Brutal Truth, Pig Destroyer, Discordance Axis, EyeHateGod and Napalm Death.

Vocalist Ethan McCarthy commented on the signing and new album: “Our new CD is being recorded by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Cephalic Carnage, Catheter, Cobalt) and it is our most dynamic, bleakest, and dirtiest material to date. We can’t wait to go out and tour on this release, and we are proud to be a part of the PROSTHETIC roster.”

CLINGING TO THE TREES OF A FOREST FIRE has toured tirelessly over the past several years throughout North America, and is currently planning a summer tour with Oregon’s BURIALS. The band will be appearing at PROSTHETIC’s South By Southwest showcase this Wednesday, March 16 at the Mohawk in Austin along with label-mates THE FUNERAL PYRE, BOOK OF BLACK EARTH, WITHERED, LANDMINE MARATHON and SCALE THE SUMMIT. The new album is slated for a late spring/early summer release.

They originally came together in New York in early 2009 through a series of chance encounters, overheard conversations and supernatural occurrences.

From disparate musical backgrounds, the five found immediate common inspiration in a collection of unique 4-track recordings created by lead singer Luke Temple. These recordings were released in February, 2009 as the self-titled Here We Go Magic (Western Vinyl).

Since this initial spark the band’s creative momentum has been unwavering. Together they have developed a broad array of musical material and honed an explosive live sound all their own. They spent much of 2009 on successive North American and European tours with bands such Department of Eagles, Grizzly Bear, and the Walkmen, before retreating to a house near East Branch, NY to record their second full length LP.

Pigeons, set for release on Secretly Canadian on June 8th, was produced and recorded by Here We Go Magic over four months in the late Summer and Fall of 2009. The band plans extensive touring in conjunction with its release.

Eulogy Recordings are very proud to announce the signing of Connecticut’s THE TIRED AND TRUE. They are currently recording their debut album “SCENARIOS” at The Elwood Studio (Milford, CT), tracking and mixing is being done by Kurt Zikaras, mastering will be done at The 3030 Club Studio by Mike Kalajian with production being done by the band. “SCENARIOS” will be released on Eulogy Recordings this summer. They band is currently planning a summer tour to support the album.

Vocalist/Guitarist Kurt Zikaras commented “I know I can speak for all of us when I say we are beyond excited to join the Eulogy Recordings family. So many of our favorite bands began their successful careers on Eulogy and have shaped the way we make music today. Joining the ranks of such bands as New Found Glory, Set Your Goals, and Dashboard Confessional is a great feeling. We are excited to announce the release of our debut full length “SCENARIOS“, coming out early this summer on the label, and are more determined than ever to make our music heard. We can’t wait to begin working with John and everyone at Eulogy. Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past 8 months while we worked diligently to reach our goals. 2010 is going to be a huge year for us and we have huge announcements coming in the next few months. Expect to catch us touring non stop!”

Eulogy owner John Wylie added “Eulogy has always been interested in working with bands of many different genres. In the past we have proudly released albums from New Found Glory, Dashboard Confessional and Set Your Goals. We feel that THE TIRED AND TRUE bring the same spirit, quality and work ethic to the table that these bands did when they were starting out. We know fans of this genre and beyond will be excited once they hear them.”

Bio:
The sounds of America echoing off the two lane black top, late nights spent in parking lots and in the backs of cars, hungry hearts immersed in empty bottles and dreams unending– Every soul out there under the stars needs a soundtrack, an anthem that punctuates the day to day grind of youth and longing. THE TIRED AND TRUE come from Connecticut, armed with a multitude of emotions equipped for the perpetual summer. Make outs, make ups, break ups and break outs. Night falls and nothing else matters, sweating beside one and another, scream out the words to your favorite song. Whether it be alone in your room, in a damp basement or a concert hall, music tethers all of us together. The debris we continuously gather can only be combated by drums, bass, guitar and voice that walks among the peers of this generation. This method has been proven for decades now. Life is always in need of a new hometown hero to get you through the night and to the office or classroom in proper spirits the following morning. Let THE TIRED AND TRUE be your guide. A reliable substitute for the synthetic hit factory of the new age.

Ladybug Landslide is the solo project of Marshall Lee, a former drummer who decided he wanted something more out of a music career besides sitting behind a kit. Taking to the front of the stage now, Lee’s songs are thoughtful and cathartic, featuring subjects many will be able to relate with. He’s toured all across the country and has even found himself performing in Alaska out of all places. Old Friends, New Enemies is the name of his latest collection of tunes, and it’s well worth checking into. Here is a recent interview we conducted with Marshall to find out more about his introspective compositions…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Ladybug Landslide, and how long the project has been going.
My name is Marshall and I do pretty much everything in Ladybug Landslide. I’ve been doing this for 3 years now.

Where are you from and what is your local music scene like there?
I’m from the Nashville, TN area and to be honest I don’t have a clue to what the scene is like in Nashville anymore. I got burnt on this town years ago and only really play out of state. I’ll tell you what I do know though is there is so much talent in this town it over saturates the industry here.

Where did you get the name Ladybug Landslide from? What a crazy psychedelic image that conjures up!
I guess it could conjure up some pretty unusual imagery if you look at it literally. The name actually has nothing to do with insects or anything. The story goes like this. I had 2 good friends in high school who were twins. One of them was in a regional touring band and the three of us always joked about creating a really heavy hardcore band and giving it the sissiest name we could think of (hence Ladybug Landslide). A year or so later the other twin got a rare form of cancer and I saw him go through all kinds of crazy things. Through it all he remained hopeful in life and even hitchhiked across the country before being diagnosed as clean from the disease. When I went to make a name for this acoustic music that was the only name I could think of that would mean something to me so here we are. I like to think of it as a tribute to my past and the times in life we had that were simpler.

Cover Story Kids is a pretty awesome song. Where did you get the ideas for the lyrics on that one?
Cover Story Kids was one of the first songs I ever wrote. I had a lot of friends who had become obsessed with fashion and their overall image so much that it just made me sick. After writing the main guitar part while I was on a mountain vacation in eastern TN, I went home and started thinking about fashion so I decided to write a song saying how I felt about it and the extreme lengths people take it to sometimes.

Did you indeed spend Six Years In The South and what inspired you to write that song?
I’ve actually spent about 24 years in the south. The title of that song refers to the six year period of my life after a breakup with a girl who I dated for two years. Well, actually to be fair I kinda split the song up and different parts are about 2 different people. The verses are primarily about one while the chorus is about another. That’s really as much info on that song as I’m going to let out right now because it still strikes a bitter nerve to think about sometimes.

Live Your Lie is a pretty strong title for an album. Is there any story behind that title and maybe the overall album concept?
For sure. Live Your Lie was my first album I put out over 2 years ago now..wow, it seems like longer. The title is referencing how people can get sucked into living in a mindset that is not really reality. Like sometimes we convince ourselves so much that something will happen or that things will work out in the end between two people when in reality it could be the farthest thing from truth. You end up living a lie and getting hurt even more when things don’t work out again and again and so on. In a nutshell it’s about facing the hard fact of life I guess and not living in a fantasy world.

What is meant by the EP title Old Friends, New Enemies?
Basically it means when your old friends become your new enemies.

What’s The Point is actually a pretty powerful video. Who came up with the concept and tell me a little about the song.
I wrote the song one night sitting in my garage because I can’t play inside while people are sleeping and to write a song I have to write lyrics as I write the music or it just doesn’t work. So I was sitting in the garage about to give up on writing and the intro riff just kinda came out of nowhere. I usually just sing the first thing that comes out and then step back and figure out what the first phrase means to me. Once I get that I structure the song around the first phrase or lyric. So the first thing that came out was “She’s walking out barefoot on the beach tonight.” “She says she’s gonna swim until her lungs fill up inside.” When I thought of that I though of someone in a seemingly hopeless situation and thought of how so many young people in this world feel that way but actually end up killing themselves because of it. I won’t lie, I’ve thought of suicide many times and sometimes gone a bit farther than thinking but lucky for me I was always too much of a wimp to actually do it. So seeing how I was able to connect with the idea on a personal level I was able to put a ton of emotion into the song. When it came time to do a video for it I told the idea and what it meant to my friend Ben Briceno who formed this interweaving storyline for it.

Has Ladybug Landslide ever played in the Los Angeles area or do you plan to do so in the future?
So far I’ve never played in L.A and I’ve stayed mainly east coast or mid west. I have had a ton of problems with people saying they’ll book tours and then flaking out on me so hopefully one day I’ll find someone to get me out there.

Do you prefer playing acoustic or would you rather have a full on band backing you up?
That’s a good question that I’m not sure if I can give a good answer to. I like having the control in my music and not having to deal with other personalities or having to work around band mates schedules. I’ve been in too many bands and I’ve seen just how quickly people can duck out when times get tough. On the other hand I really like the intensity that comes along with a full band. I am afraid however that if I got a full band, I might just get a little crazy and change my sound completely to something like Alexisonfire or something like that and I don’t think my fans would like that sharp transition. All in all I guess I’m happy as is for now but one day…

What made you decide to start drumming again, this time for Backseat Goodbye and how has that been working out?
It just felt right to me. I hadn’t played in two years and I was aching for something I could sit back and relax while I was playing and I can do just that with Backseat Goodbye. I guess after dealing with every detail of everything for so long with Ladybug Landslide I just wanted a low key role in something I believed in. Chad from Backseat and I did a month long tour together in August of 08′ and we have just become really good friends since then. He eventually needed a full band for himself and asked me to play so the rest is history. To answer “How has it been working out?”, it’s been straining on me because I am trying to keep myself going and not fall too far behind while at the same time being there for him on his tours. It takes a ton of planning but so far other than the stress of working it all out it’s been fun and great times. Backseat Goodbye is Chad’s baby not mine so I just do whatever he needs to help him get to where he wants. I’ll be playing on his upcoming full length release and we head out NY in two weeks to start recording for that.

What was it like playing in Alaska and how did you wind up doing a show all the way up there?
Actually it was more than one show. I think I did four shows the last time I was there and one the previous time. Alaska is great though! I lived there for several months one winter in 2003 and fell in love with it and that’s why I keep going back. The kids up there love live music and most are super friendly. I was able to get shows there by just making contacts each time I was up but I did lose a lot of money doing it. It was worth it in my opinion though. I also had some fans donate money to help me get there and back and I am very grateful for those that helped me get there. It’s a weird feeling to drive 4,000 miles or 72 hours to get there and have more people show up to your show there than in your home state. To wrap it up though I love Alaska and my fans in Alaska!

What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most after hearing your music for the very first time?
I don’t know. I just hope they get something besides noise out of it.

Any final words of wisdom?
Yeah and this may sound like a real mean or rude to thing to say but I’ve got to say it. To the young musicians out there with acoustic guitars, quit trying to copy NeverShoutNever. It’s annoying. He wrote his own music and worked hard, now you write your own music. Paying your dues and working hard will get you farther than copying someone. There is nothing wrong with having people to look up to or having people who influence your writing but don’t take the same promo shots, dress the same and do everything he does. You are you and you should embrace the hell out of that!

HEXEN and special guests
FEBRUARY 28, 2010
The Cobalt Café

Up first was Deathsummoner. They opened the show because the first band didn’t show up to play. Even though running late due to traffic, Deathsummoner brought forth the forces of Dark Metal to the front brutal beating of the audience. From their first song to their last Deathsummoner is one of L.A.’s up and coming forces of metal evil. During their set they did two cover songs The Four Horsemen by Metallica and Metal Meltdown by Judas Priest. Some of their own songs that stuck out were Gods Of Obliteration, Slay The Bitch and Slave To The Full Moon.

San Fernando Valley’s hard metal act KILLION was on second. They had a lot of people at this show. They even drew extra people at the door too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this band headline at The Cobalt Café sometime soon. They are currently good friends with Hexen. Hexen’s drummer is helping Killion with recording the drums for their first EP due out soon. Killion is one of the 100 bands performing in March in Long Beach at the Queen Mary Skinnie Magazine’s rock festival. This set tonight featured strong riffs and heavy base line with enthusiastic fast paced drumming. Some of their best songs were Four Ages, Foot In Mouth and Life Through Death. They had in the middle of their set a really cool instrument song too.

Third up was AGREZOR. This was their first time playing at this all ages venue. The band hails out of Los Angeles with vengeance and might. Their youth and anger aggression shows in their brutal metal sound. Some of their songs that stuck out tonight were Evil Angel (which would make for a great video), Rise Of The Serpent, Dirty Business and Fear Of Violence.

Fourth was up and comer INFECTIOUS DIARRHEA. These guys have another project called GOR as well. But tonight was one of their full performances as Infectious Diarrhea. They are a local band out of Woodland Hills in The San Fernando Valley area. Enthusiasm is one of their best traits. This raw energy is awesome due to the hard fast pounding of their instruments. A few of their songs that rocked were Absolute Hatred Of All Man Kind, Till Death Due Us Part and War Crimes.

Next, all the way from Palmdale Lancaster area, came PERSECUTION. Hailing out of the desert is a charge from heated enthralled metal. This brought a different Darkness and Vengeance to the show. Darkness & Vengeance are the titles of two songs they performed tonight. Other great songs in tonight’s brutal windstorm furry pit they stated was from such songs as Persecution, From Whom The Bell Tolls and An Empty Chalice. This band was a good choice for opening for Hexen because they got the crowd excited.

HEXEN was here now to show how to lift up an audience to higher hell of brutality. Their amount of pure talent is so tight. Their timing is impeccable. The line Up has a few fresh members in it as well. They currently have one CD out called State Of Insurgency on DSM Records. They performed five songs from the album State Of Urgency, Past Life, Blast Radius, Gas Chamber and Seditions In Peacetime. They played a cool cover of Five Magic by Megadeth and showed off a new song called Gas Chamber (which would make a cool video) that the crowd really liked.

The show started at 7PM and ended at 12:30AM a great long blistering brutal metal show. This rocked. Sorry you missed it.

Influenced by the band’s love of electronica, BMTH invited their favorite DJs, bands and musicians, including The Secret Handshake, Travis McCoy (Gym Class Heroes), Ben Weinman (The Dillinger Escape Plan), M. Shawn Crahan (Slipknot), among others, to remix Suicide Season in their own aural vision. The result is 14 hard-hitting, electro-metal-mashed tracks that will have headbangers dancing and club kids moshing along to the beats.

Fans and critics can witness the unadulterated chaos and mayhem first hand with an exclusive, never before seen complete live performance from an overcapacity venue in Mexico City, three high energy live videos from a show in Siberia, Russia and their four wildly popular music videos for “The Comedown,” “Chelsea Smile,” “Diamonds Aren’t Forever” and “The Sadness Will Never End.”

BMTH have begun writing their follow-up to Suicide Season with plans to release their third studio album later this year. The band will be returning to the US in June to perform on the main-stage at this summer’s Vans Warped Tour.
