Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of New Haven, CT black metal band IPSISSIMUS. The band inked a worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records and will be entering Sonic Environments studio in Bloomfield, CT to record their first full-length album and Metal Blade debut. Longtime friend of His Emissary, Jeff Weed, is not only the owner of Sonic Environments studio but has also stepped in as the band’s “sonic alchemist” (aka engineer/producer). IPSISSIMUS began recording in June 2010 and are taking a short break before returning to Sonic Environments studio in early September to finish the record. Their feature full-length will include the band’s EP Three Secrets of Fatima along with three new songs.

IPSISSIMUS drummer Haimatokharmes comments; “Metal Blade is a label that has been home to artists brutal, technical, filthy, blasting, wildly successful, and, most importantly, unique. Ipsissimus is very proud to join this family, and looks forward to adoring the Goat with them by producing ritual black metal that is truly ipsissima!”

“A 3 piece black metal symphony that is at the forefront of the American Black Metal movement… IPSISSIMUS is technical yet punishing, perfect for Metal Blade Records and fans of our brand of metal,” adds Michael Faley, President of Metal Blade Records.

IPSISSIMUS has a handful of upcoming one-off shows that sees the band sharing the stage with the likes of The Absence, Skeletonwitch, Withered, Landmine Marathon, Unearthly Trance, Black Pyramid, Suma, and more. See dates below.

Sept 28th is the Black Anvil CD release at the Studio @ Webster Hall in NYC with The Absence

Sept 30th is “Metal Thursday CV” @ Ralph’s Chadwick Square Rock Diner in Worcester with Unearthly Trance, Suma (from Sweden) and Black Pyramid

Oct 21st, “Born of Fire” presents Ipsissimus and Nachzehrer along with a screening of the cult classic “Alucarda” @ O’Brien’s in Allston, MA

October 30th @ Club Oasis in Worcester with Scaphism, Despoilment, Wreckoning, Sarcomancy and Deconformity

November 28th @ Lilly’s Pad (Toad’s Place upstairs) in New Haven with Skeletonwitch, Withered and Landmine Marathon

IPSISSIMUS is:
Tichondrius: Bass / Vocals
Haimatokharmes: Drums
His Emissary: Guitar

About the band:
IPSISSIMUS was founded when His Emissary (guitars) and Haimatokharmes (drums) met by providence on 6/6/06 in New Haven, CT, and found in one another worthy vessels of channeling the occult philosophies into ritual Black Metal. In November of that year, Tichondrius (bass/vocals) completed the trinity. Within a month they were playing concerts and released the demo Trampling the Host, a potent exercise in raw, blasting Black Metal. Over the following years, they established a reputation across New England for technical yet raw live performances, sharing the stage with both local and established Black Metal groups, such as Nachtmystium, Enslaved, Dark Funeral, Krallice, and Watain. In February 2008, IPSISSIMUS independently released the Three Secrets of Fatima EP, a complex and melodic triptych that thrust them to the forefront of the burgeoning American Black Metal scene. In June, IPSISSIMUS played the Three Secrets of Fatima EP start to finish to a very enthusiastic crowd when the band opened up for legendary EYEHATEGOD and Nachtmystium. Matching their music to orations of black piety that draw from esoteric traditions antique and modern, often composed in the dead tongues of the ancients themselves, IPSISSIMUS initiates the listener to a Left-Hand Gnosis with a unique and irrefutable statement of American Black Metal.

A member of the local Longview, TX metal scene for a while now, Sleep Now Sivylla is certain to reawaken themselves on a national level – judging by the ferocious content heard on their just released Self Titled EP.

On the spiritual side of the spectrum, Sleep Now Sivylla compares exceptionally well to anything Solid State and Facedown are placing out onto disc these days. The four songs found within are impassioned and brutal, destined to gain these guys a rabid following well beyond the vast confines of the Lone Star State.

“Crush the head of the serpent! And burn down his throne!” screams the first song Walk To Asia, whose crucial lyrical content is inspiring to behold. The music grabs you by the throat instantly and refuses to loosen up on its lethal grip.

Pittsburgh Nellie is vast and ambitious in scope, complete with a gang chorus at the end that is sure to have the audience singing along. One of the most thrilling tracks on the EP and easier the best song the band has ever recorded.

“Tear this sin from my flesh!” is the worship call on 3:16 To Yuma, the oldest song on the EP and the perhaps the most devastating as well. This one is guaranteed to not only send the hardcore pits into overdrive, but will leave you with plenty to reflect upon. The band has filmed a terrific video to this track which may be viewed at the conclusion of this review…

The decisive call to faith ends way to soon with the unearthly sounds of Azmodeous Of Azeroth. “We have betrayed our God,” is the cry at the beginning of the song, guaranteed to send chills down your spine. Eventually bursting into a sonic wall of sound, the track shows just how exciting and resourceful the Sleep Now Sivylla collective is.

Fans of bands such as Underoath and Norma Jean will think they’ve hit a treasure trove of sonic enlightenment when encountering the mesmerizing metal sensation known as Sleep Now Sivylla. The music is absolutely explosive and the lyrics impassioned and sincere.

All members of the band shine throughout the recording, including Zach Canter on vocals, Trevor Adams on drums and vocals, Josh Hardin on lead guitar, Peter Elijah in rhythm guitar, and Will Fisher on bass. Recorded with skilled precision by Drew Emory at My Plastic Studios.

Unsigned for now, but do not even expect Sleep Now Sivylla to hold on to that status for long. An impressive debut from a band on a mission who are destined for the big time.

Now available on iTunes!!!

If you are into melodic pop/punk bands such as New Found Glory and Blink 182, then Goodnight Fellows is well worth seeking out. An up and coming collective from the State of Colorado, the band has released several wildly infectious songs on iTunes and has gained an impressive following due to relentless social networking and their energetic live performance. We recently caught up with one of the Goodnight Fellows to find out more about this promising new entity. Break out the glow sticks and prepare to meet your next favorite band…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Goodnight Fellows, and how long the band has been together.
Hey I’m Josh Urdiales. I sing for Goodnight Fellows. Mike Leach plays guitar, Erek Johnson plays drums and Carrington Beard plays bass. We’ve been together for about… 5 or 6 years.

Where is the band from and what is the music scene like there?
We’re all from Pueblo, Colorado which doesn’t really have a music scene at all, but Colorado Springs and Denver are just up the road from us and they both have very decent music scenes. That’s where we usually play.

Where did you get the name Goodnight Fellows from?
Everyone asks us about our name and we always just look at each other and shrug. Haha, we really can’t remember when or why we came up with it, but I wish we had a really cool story to tell people. Oh well, maybe I’ll make something up someday

What is a live Goodnight Fellows show like for those of us who have yet to see you play?
Hopefully really fun! We try to get as funky as possible and make it a really fun and different experience for people. We have a bubble machine and we like to hand out glow sticks, so…it gets pretty interesting.

Tell me about your new song Best In Me and what inspired you to write the lyrics?
I was sitting in our van one night outside of our apartment complex (that’s the only place I could play or write without making our neighbors mad) and I was thinking about how our last E.P. was totally about trouble with girls and things not going good and I just wanted to write something happy and fun. So I put some parts together and we took it up to Hollywood and met up with our buddy Blake from Metro Station and finished it up. I hope everyone enjoys listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.

Where do you get the ideas for some of your lyrics? Please cite two other songs and what the lyrics are about.
I got the idea for the song “Not a Thing” a while back when I was really into McFly and their style of music and how they had a really timeless sound and deeper lyrics; and I was in highschool at the time and wanted to write a love song that people could relate to and connect with. The song “Over with Me and You” is about an ex girlfriend of course, who kinda lost her mind after we had been off and on for so long and it was over for good once she finally heard the song. haha A song can be a really affective way to get your point across.

Being from Colorado, what made you decide to put out an EP called Arizona?
When we moved to Arizona we were just four young guys away from home for the first time. And as you could probably guess it was a pretty sureal and crazy. Once we recorded with Matt Grabe and were about to pack it all up and move back to Colorado, we kind of took a step back and looked at all the friends we made and times we had down there and the name “Arizona” just seemed to fit the E.P.

Who are some of the bigger bands you have opened for in the past and what was the experience like?
We opened up for The Summer Set back a while ago in Denver which was blast and was pretty much our first time playing with a really big band. We also opened up for Stereo Skyline back in Arizona and that night was absolutely insane. They’re some of the coolest dudes I know.

Any strange or unusual Myspace stories you could share?
Myspace stories? Well, way back when we first made our myspace, somebody or some people kept hacking it somehow and making our background like naked people and really disturbing stuff haha which really sucked. But we learned out lesson and made our password like 50 characters long.

If you could be a donut, what kind would you be and why?
I would have to say… chocolate with rainbow sprinkles because not only is it delicious, but it looks pretty cool too.

Has Goodnight Fellows ever played in the Los Angeles area or plan to do so in the future?
We’ve never played in Cali but we would really love to someday!

If there was one thing you’d like a listener to remember the most after hearing your band for the first time, what would it be?
I’d like for them to most importantly, remember our band name, haha so they can come back for a second listen if they liked it.

Any final words of wisdom?
Say no to drugs! and stay in school, unless schools not your thing…

(Interview by Kenneth Morton)

Gotee Records band House of Heroes SUBURBA produced by Mark Lee Townsend (Relient K, Deas Vail) and mixed by J.R. McNeely (The Almost, Paramore) is out now, after a stellar two weeks after street date the band is excited to hit the road on the Monster Monster Tour with The Almost, Chasen and Between the Trees, dates kicks off on September 14.

“It’s clear that with Suburba, House of Heroes could easily take on arenas and stadiums and have their songs shouted back to them, it’s time for us to let go of our little secrets and let them become successful.”

Endlessly poppy and dripping with honest, candid emotion, Suburba takes us back to a time when rock music was more innocent and held more meaning.

“A trend we see around the website is when a band breaks up or goes on hiatus and everyone spends the next few years talking about how they wish they were back / still making music …things like that.
A solo artist from the Minneapolis area, Liz Akhavan has a thoroughly unique, highly expressive voice that should gain her a good deal of attention. Imagine the whimsical style of Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer mixed with the lush inflections of a Sarah McLachlan, and you are just beginning to envision the earthy vocal presentation of Liz Akhavan.

The Acoustic EP is the perfect showcase for the marvelous versatility of both the artist’s vocals and her stellar lyrical content. The six-song recording opens with the wistful Maybe Romances, a composition of wonder and witticisms that is brilliantly infectious to behold.

Ghost meshes the expressive vocals of Ms. Akhavan with a haunting yet simplistic organ accompaniment with victorious results. Shaking off the past and facing the prospect of a new romance is the subject of the song, and its presentation is absolutely stunning.

Lately is a astonishing song about self reflection and empowerment that really shines in its stark honesty. And then there’s Loved And Lost, an emotional track that would bring a tear to the eye of even the most discerning of listener.

Two Steps Back is an upbeat track about moving on from a bad situation, complete with passionate vocals that really sparkle and send the material soaring.

Closing out The Acoustic EP is the calming serenity of Lullaby – a moment of sheer magic where Liz’s vocals transcend both time and trends – coming up with a sweet memory of truly classic vocalists from the years gone by. One could close your eyes and imagine a recording star of the 40’s singing this treasure on the radio.

The Acoustic EP is a dazzling introduction to an artist we will surely be hearing a lot more of in the future. A collection of truly inspiring songs that one will want to revisit time and again. The tracks on The Acoustic EP have been produced and co-written by Chase Coy – another talented young artist you should really check into.

Today, AETERNITAS TENEBRARUM MUSIC FOUNDATION (ATMF) confirms the signing of infamous Norwegian squadron DISIPLIN, the brainchild of one WeltenFeind, who’s done time in such illustrious names as DISSECTION, SLAVIA, MYRKSKOG, and KOLDBRANN. The band has inked a three-album deal with ATMF, the first release of which will be entitled Radikale Randgruppe, slated for release sometime in November.

As the wolf-pack is approaching the new sacrifice, 10 years of history of black metal integrity and daring for DISIPLIN, Radikale Randgruppe will stand as a special anniversary album composed by totally new material, limited to 1000 copies to be released on Digibook format, and with the first 100 copies with a limited T-shirt. DISIPLIN’s martial monument Radikale Randgruppe won’t be re-pressed or re-released but will stay as a unique stone in the band’s legacy.

WeltenFeind comments on the union: “We’re proud to have this sharpened weapon of the pagan gods under our wing, moving from one of the most innovative labels, Moonfog. They’ve been an example of how Norwegian black metal should have been evolved instead of rooting on the memories. DISIPLIN are still there to take forward the idea of black metal as an extreme weapon instead of a un-offensive stereotype.”

A specific release date for DISIPLIN’s Radikale Randgruppe will be announced soon, but preorders will be open in late September. More details to come, but in the meantime, consult www.wolf-axis.com and www.myspace.com/wolfaxis.

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Society’s Plague, and how long the band has been together.
Hey everyone, my name is Matt and I am the front man for Society’s Plague. We’ve been together for about 7 years now, building our fan base, touring, and working our way to a national level.

Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like there?
Society’s Plague is based out of Lexington Kentucky, and for the time being the scene here is good, but it seems to go up and down a lot. Since it’s a college town we have a ton of different genres of music around.

Is there any story or concept behind the CD title The Human, The Canvas?
The overall theme for the album is being yourself. “The Human” part of the title refers to people in general and how everyone is able to make their own decision, whether they’re good decisions or bad decisions. Everyone has a chance to make life what they want it to be, some people will make the most of the opportunities and choices they have and others will not.
“The Canvas” part of the title refers to being able to start with a blank canvas.
Just like a painting every person starts as a blank canvas, who you are and what you stand for is up to how you paint yourself.

Where did you get the ideas for some of your lyrics? Please cite two songs in particular, and what the lyrics are about.
I try not to got into personal meanings behind the lyrics in our songs. I like for everyone to take a listen and get their own meaning out of it and relate it to something that has taken place in their lives. I think people can connect with music better that way, If I tell you a song it about politics and you thought it was a love song, it ruins the listeners perception on the song.

What was it like opening for Lacuna Coil and did you get to meet Cristina or any of the other members?
It was pretty crazy honestly, because it was such a busy event we really didn’t get a chance to mingle too much, we would have loved to meet Lacuna Coil – we just didn’t have the chance. We did get a chance to hang out and chat with the guys in Spineshank and Bury Your Dead – all those guys were real cool and gave us some good advice about touring and stuff.

What could one expect from a live Society’s Plague show?
Intensity. We really go all out at our shows; there are no gimmicks or anything, just pure emotion. We want people to feel what we feel when we play and I think it really sets us apart from a lot of bands out there that are just trying to play songs that they think kids will like. A Society’s Plague show is never boring that’s for sure. We are working on some new live show ideas right now for our East Coast tour in October.

Some of the members were involved in a van accident towards the beginning of the year. Has everyone recovered and what exactly happened?
Yea, it was right in the middle of recording for “The Human, The Canvas” up in Cleveland at Spider Studios. Mike, Joe and Kate were on their way to the store to pick up some food and a drunk guy driving a Ford F-150 crossed the line and hit them head on. There were a few broken bones and some sore backs and necks but everyone has fully recovered. Luckily Roger knew most of the guitar parts and we were able to have him step in and finish a couple parts we were looking to change.

Has the band ever played here in the Los Angeles/OC area or plan to do so in the future?
We haven’t yet, after our East Coast tour in October we are going to start routing a tour for January/February and we are planning to hit the West Coast then. Let me be honest – nobody wants to tour the East Coast with 3 feet of snow on the ground, Ha Ha Ha.

Combined, Tony Gammalo and Ben Schigel have some pretty impressive Producer credits. What did they contribute to the overall recording process and did they give you any advice while in the studio?
They both really brought a professional ear to the sound we were trying to bring to the album. Their advice was invaluable. They make sure all the bands they record know exactly why they were tweaking this or changing that. It was a great learning experience.
We worked with Tony for almost the entire album and Ben jumped in when he heard something he really liked or thought we should tweak.

Does your keyboardist Kate go on tour with you, and how does she feel about the prospect of touring with a bunch of guys?
She sure does and I’m not sure how she feels about touring with a bunch of guys. So far we’re all still alive so I guess that means she’s found a way to manage. We’re all like family though, so it really is a lot easier to get along than most people think.

How did you wind up being signed to Stand and Deliver Records?
We had been looking for a way to get our music and band to the next level and Stand and Deliver Records was a label that really stuck out to us as being a family and not just another record label.
Our manager was able to get in contact with them and after several talks we were able to strike a deal. Its been great so far. We are just working on getting all our stuff together so we are able to be on the road full time.

What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most after hearing The Human, The Canvas for the very first time?
I would like everything to stand out, to a first time listener, but most of all I want listeners to be able to connect with the album, even if its just with one part, lyrics, a great guitar riff, or one of the drum beats.
I hope our album is a memorable one to everyone who listens to it.

Any final words of wisdom?
To unsigned bands: It only gets hard being signed, its more work and pressure then being able to just promote and tour whenever its convenient for your band.
To fans: Thanks for supporting us through everything, continuing to support us, and check out our new tour dates, Merchandise and Dinglife.com

Singer’s main goal is to raise awareness and get people involved by registering to be a bone marrow donor

Since news on Nergal’s recent health issues has been released, the band, management, and label has received an overwhelming response from fans and bands all over the world asking how they can directly help Nergal. In response to everyone offering his or her help in terms of setting up benefits and shows to raise money for the frontman of the Polish blackened death metal band BEHEMOTH, Nergal has issued the following statement:

“I haven’t intended to manifest myself in any way and, especially at this stage, to share my feelings or any other news with the world for obvious reasons. It is simply too early for it. But it was YOU who provoked me to say a few words. Regarding my personal low opinion of humankind, I’m shocked by the reaction to my illness. I actually expected NOTHING yet received feedback which surpassed all expectations. I want to ensure you I read EACH mail I receive, although I’m unable to reply to all of them. The power of your words is pure magic and I thank you all for it. You are a gigantic indestructible army that truly inspires me in this difficult time. The fact is that a fight with this illness is going to last for many months. Most of this time I will spend in hospital and I will go through various psychophysical states. If you know the history of Behemoth you also know we achieved everything by hard work and a steely determination. The same goes for my private life. I happen to be a strong son of a bitch. I have no faith but rely on a 100% victory and I am sure I will get out of it stronger than ever. Sun Tzu in his ‘Art of War’ said that if you know your enemy and yourself the result of a thousand battles will not surprise you… I enter the ring with this Nietzschean attitude and I will leave it as a winner, as usual. Just watch and see!

So I want to emphasize that Behemoth will by no means goes through any hibernation state. Obviously all concert plans must be postponed until some unknown point in the future, but things are happening! Lately our newest video for ‘…Alas, Lord is Upon Me’ has premiered and stirred up quite a storm in mass media, which fills us with utter pride. Plus we’ve just finished the project of our new DVD; Evangelia Heretika is a three disc release, a real encyclopedia of Behemoth with nearly 5 hours of material and a bonus audio CD that will be out in November (Metal Blade US – Nuclear Blast Europe). Expect an experience of visual madness as we went to hell and back to make it! Our official Webstore has been functional for a couple of days and official merchandise and some very exclusive stuff can be bought there. At the beginning of 2011, Peaceville in Europe and Metal Blade in US will reissue the EPs with new artwork, bonuses, liner notes, and more. As you can see, despite a complicated situation and difficult circumstances we’re remaining active wherever we can.

Finally, I want to comment on some opinions which, provoked by religious circles, lead to far-fetched and inaccurate interpretations. I was surprised to hear my illness became a pretext for some people to embark on their own crusade. Opinions suggesting I might come closer to God or abandon my ideals and grovel to the only correct world view in this country not only surprised but also frightened me. This is a typical example of supporting one’s own views by preying on someone’s misfortune. ‘He fell ill so he will convert to Christianity, he will discover the religion he fought against is actually close to him.’ Halt! Why should the illness change my point of view? It is true this is a difficult time for me and the thoughts of ultimate matters are hard to chase away. But the idea that I will change my opinions, priorities, and values as a consequence of my illness sounds as if someone regards my head, and not my body, ill. Suggesting I might convert are ridiculous. To what would I convert? After all, I know Christian mythology pretty well, not only in its literary version, and I find nothing good, creative or beautiful in it. I read books better and wiser than the Bible. War, blood, blackmail, rapes, incest, pedophilia, zoophilia, collaboration and treachery – each page emanates with evil. Some may say I don’t understand the message of the Bible. I’d rather say the Christianity is nothing more than a rusty and archaic structure that is going to fall down any moment. It lasts only because of the gullible that follow the shepherd blindly; without any questions, without any consideration, not to any promised land, but to an intellectual slaughter. So, I say to those, who see some chances to break my rules, and myself because of the illness: over my dead body!”

Nergal’s official view on benefit concerts, fund raisers, etc. is focused on marrow donations as a whole issue, not his specific situation. If you want to help Nergal the best thing you can do is set up a marrow drive or register to be a bone marrow donor. Every person that registers to be a donor increases the chances of survival for Nergal and every other person out there suffering from the same illness.
