Chip and Tony Kinman have been involved in some of America’s most defining moments in music during their long and storied careers. Their seminal band the Dils are regarded as one of the first and foremost West Coast punk rock acts of the late 70’s and their subsequent group Rank and File helped define the entire alt-country movement and intimately shaped the genre we now call Americana.
Chip and Tony’s latest collaboration sees Chip fronting Ford Madox Ford and Tony contributing production, co-writing and backing vocals. The sound is an indie-alt twist on American Blues and like everything Kinman is unique and tuneful. Ford Madox Ford debuted on Porterhouse Records in 2016 with their debut 7” “Expect It” and will spend the upcoming winter months writing and recording what Chip is referting to as a “statement” full length recording.
This November 4th the brothers will offer their take on the Wilbert Harrison 1970 Billboard hit “Let’s Work Together” to a nation in need of licking it’s collective post-election behind. Made popular by Canned Heat, the Blues hallmark has also been covered by Brian Ferry.
However, don’t expect the Kinmans to stick too close to the script. Ford Madox Ford’s twin “Squalling guitar” (Jack Rabid – Big Takeover) attack makes this a must hear and with its uplifting message of unification this track is a seasonal must!
“Let’s Work Together” is available for pre-order at iTunes on Oct.21 and launches digitally November 4th worldwide.
