To The Wolves by Halfway To Winter (Self released EP)
Although the average age of the membership is just 17, Halfway To Winter is remarkable solid – and more than well on their way to the big time if their just released EP is indicative of things to come. Based out of the Oakland, MI area, Halfway To Winter has just unleashed a dynamic collection of tunes entitled To The Wolves. Those into bands such as A Skylit Drive and Asking Alexandria will surely want to check out what these talented musicians have to offer. For being so young, the band is incredibly tight, and compare especially well to any of the signed and better-known hardcore/screamo bands out on the market today.
Once the first track The New East 46th Street kicks into high gear, you know you’re listening to something powerful and impassioned. Hey Nash Bridges, You’ve Got The Safety On is performed with fierce abandon, while the cleverly titled She Looks Like Biz Markie is sure to be a crowd pleaser when performed live.
Demons Don’t Need Peons To Chop Wood once again shows off their knack for cool song names as well as tremendously ferocious musical structures. And then there’s the final track entitled The Right Hook, blasting away at the listener while supplying a fitting conclusion to the disc. The last thirty seconds are especially intense, guaranteed to get the adventures types lunging headfirst into the mosh pit.
The combination of singing and screamed vocals is definitely impressive, both performed with fervor and skill. Add in the metallic guitars and tightly wound rhythm section, and you’ve got a wildly winning combination on your hands. Having been together for just two years, Halfway To Winter is quickly becoming a musical force to be reckoned with. The lineup consists of TJ Carswell on lead vocals, David Elliott on guitar and singing vocals, Brett Ullmann on drums, Austin Knott on guitar, and Anthony Capoccia on bass. The band has played support to the likes of The Devil Wears Prada, White Chapel, and Asking Alexandria and may wind up headlining on their own one day if they keep up the drive and wonderful enthusiasm they exude in their music. To The Wolves is Halfway To Winter’s stab at the big time, and if there is any justice at all to be had in the industry, they will get noticed. Count on it! A howling good time for all!
