IRON CLAD SOLDIERS by HJALLARHORN (Pure Steel Records)
Although the band formed back in 1993, it would not be until 2009 when the metal world would hear the debut full-length of the mighty Hjallarhorn. Based out of Oslo, Norway; Hjallarhorn perform pure classic metal in the grand tradition of Iron Maiden and Metallica. After listening to the head banging tunes, one could clearly say that Iron Clad Soldiers was well worth the wait.
Opening with the clarion call of Battle Of Repulsion, Iron Clad Heroes never fails to excite the listener with its guitar hero solos, driving vocals, and tighter-than-hell rhythm section. The title track is an absolute classic, guaranteed to electrify those who have “metal in their veins.” Another highlight is Brigade, starting out with the ominous sounds of an acoustic guitar and then exploding into a dark and deadly song of anthem-like proportions. Eye Of The Storm is a 9-plus minute opus, demonstrating all Hjallorhorn members at the very height of their creative prowess. Be sure to listen to the conclusion, as The Machinist will thrash your senses into oblivion.
Iron Clad Soldiers is an absolute triumph – an underground true metal gem that enthusiasts of the genre will want to revisit time and again. Here’s hoping there’s not too long of a wait for the next set of Hjallarhorn compositions. Info: http://www.myspace.com/hjallarhorn! (Kenneth Morton)
