Honesty by Bears Among Men (Self-released)
Based out of the Central Coast of California, Bears Among Men has been working hard over the last few years, presenting their exhilarating brand of melodic hardcore at venues up and down the Golden State. And now, the collective unleashes Honesty upon the world at large, their first full-length effort – and judging by the ten intensive tracks found within, this self-release is destined to gain the band a good deal of attention. With soaring choruses meshing with brutal passages and suffocating breakdowns, it looks like Bears Among Men are about to claw their way into the big leagues.
The journey into the heart of Honesty commences with the wildly explosive Aboveboard, instantly conveying the band’s passion and conviction throughout the spiraling soundscapes. “I’ve been searching for what you’ve been hording, show me how to be low like you,” is the epic chorus that surrounds the dark entreaties of Scavengers. Then it’s time to hop aboard the High Horse and feel the all-out rage Bears Among Men exhibit in their brutally honest tunes.
Tombstones is up next, a thrashing work of relentless energy, which includes the participation of Daniel McWhorter of the mighty Gideon. Through Change then comes at the listener at a hyper breakneck speed, with crashing drums and breakdowns that will rip your heart out – add in the gripping lyrical content and you’ve got a monster of a composition on your hands.
“I don’t wanna feel this way,” the somber introduction of Irritable reveals, before busting into an all-out war of emotions in sonic overdrive. The assault to the senses rages on with the ferocious strains of Class Conflict and the unforgiving reprieves of Target melting through your speakers. Ungrateful is the previously released single that packs an infinite punch within the context of Honesty. And then closing out the recording is the blistering Contentment, a striking cut that definitely leaves the listener growling like a newborn bear cub for a whole lot more!
The inspiring performances from Bears Among Men are brought to you courtesy of Jose on vocals, Kyle on bass and vocals, Fernando on guitar, Ryan on guitar, and Gregg on drums. Honesty was skillfully produced, engineered and edited by the band with mixing and mastering conducted by none other than Kris Crummett (Crown The Empire, Alesana, Issues).
