Joe Lynn Turner, The Hard Way, The Whisky, May 27, 2016
Legendary frontman Joe Lynn Turner treated local rock and roll fans to an astounding show at the iconic Whisky a Go Go on the Sunset Strip on a Friday night in late May. Unleashing songs from his days with Rainbow and Deep Purple, Joe Lynn Turner and his absolutely top notch band presented a mesmerizing performance – one that the Whisky attendees will be reminiscing about fondly for the glorious metal years ahead.
From the grand commencement of Over The Rainbow and Death Alley Driver, Turner’s vocals were wondrously amazing – soaring into the stratosphere and well beyond. Other grand and sweeping moments in time included vibrant renditions of Man On The Silver Mountain, Smoke On The Water, and a rousing rendition of the Yngwie Malmsteen classic Rising Force. Turner remains a powerful, impassioned artist whose vocals positively thrill the senses! And what an outstanding band Turner brought along for this very special tour, featuring the participation of Steve Brown (Trixter) on guitar, Sean McNabb (Dokken, Great White) on bass, Matt Starr (Mt. Big) on drums and Eric Ragno (Paul Stanley, Graham Bonnet) on keyboards. Such a magical night with so many talented musicians assembled on the stage! In the present day, Joe Lynn Turner’s AOR project Sunstorm has just unveiled their next great effort entitled Edge Of Tomorrow – now available worldwide from the mighty Frontiers Records!
Locals legends The Hard Way provided direct support to Joe Lynn Turner, and really had the party going full swing with their wild and raging brand rock and roll. The mastermind behind The Hard Way is the one and only Eric Jeffreys –an absolutely charismatic front man who really knows how to deliver a tune in a vast and epic way! Songs such as Diabolical Bitch and Police Brutality shows two very different sides to the wickedly wonderful Hard Way hard rock experience.
With two very captivating Hard Way dancers on opposite sides of the stage and the perfect amalgamation of seasoned musicians on hand, The Hard Way present an exhilarating show that is not to be missed. And wait – who was that on drums? Why, it was Matt Starr of Joe Lynn Turner, Mr. Big, and Ultimate Jam Night fame driving the beats home with an all-out vengeance! Not sure how the ubiquitous Mr. Starr was able to pull off two high energy performances in a row, but he did so with a good deal of skill and conviction.
Be sure to catch The Hard Way opening for the Bulletboys at The Whisky on June 24th! Nothing in the world can beat a rock solid show from this good time Hollywood-based band!
