Introducing Kingdom Collapse, a dynamic new collective from San Antonio ready to sweep the listener away with their intensive modern metal reveries. Their debut EP is entitled Common Ground, where scorching melodies, towering choruses and powerful lyrics combine to make for an exhilarating sonic experience. Here is an interview recently we conducted with drummer Hayden Allen to find out more about this band on the rise, ready to break it out into the big leagues. Read on…
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Kingdom Collapse, and how long the band has been together.
My name is Hayden Allen and I am the drummer for Kingdom Collapse. The band has been together since about mid-2013.
Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band is based around the San Antonio area and the music scene is pretty strong here. We’re fortunate to be in a market where one of the top genre’s is metal. A Tragic Setback and Fortunes are two of my favorite local bands.
Is there any story or concept behind the EP title Common Ground?
The concept is basically life and death and everything in between. Things that we all have in common. Josh (vocalist) wanted to touch on a wide variety of topics.
Select any two Kingdom Collapse songs and what inspired the lyrics.
Serenity’s lyrics are about accepting change in life and Dear Dad is about losing a loved one. I think these were both written due to our singer losing his father.
What could one expect from a live Kingdom Collapse show?
A lot of energy and good music!
What was it like opening for As I Lay Dying and We Came As Romans, and were they cool to hang out with?
Our vocalist played with them in his previous band, so the rest of us haven’t had the honor of that! haha
Has Kingdom Collapse ever played here in the Los Angeles area or plan to do so in future days?
Haven’t yet but we’re hoping to get out there later this year!
Any strange or scary happenings on the road or at a Kingdom Collapse show?
Yea, a couple technical difficulties during the set. It can be pretty scary.
If Kingdom Collapse could open up for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
I would have to pick Killswitch Engage, because our music styles are similar.
What other bands were you all in prior to joining forces with Kingdom Collapse?
I was in a death metal band called Damascus. Jonathan and Cameron were in a band called Arisen. Michael (guitarist) was in a band called Persistence in Flames. Josh is from Ohio and played in a band called Visionaries.
How close is Kingdom Collapse to writing and recording a full length?
Everything is written, so Id say we’ll probably start working on it over the summer.
What’s up next for Kingdom Collapse?
Going to be working on our next release and playing as many shows as possible this summer!
Any final words of wisdom?
If you have any talent, even if it’s not playing an instrument, don’t give up on it. You’d be surprised where it can take you.
