The Extreme Sounds of
MOLOTOV SOLUTION

by Kenneth Morton

One of the heaviest bands to ever explode from the Las Vegas extreme music scene, Molotov Solution has been travelling across in the country in support of their Metal Blade Records debut released. The Harbinger is the name of the sonic assault, and was produced by Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying. Their recording is definitely a thought providing, mosh inducing piece of work. Here is a recent interview we conducted with one of the Molovoc members...

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Molotov Solution, and how long the band has been together.
My name is Sims and I play guitar. The actual name Molotov Solution has been around for about five years strong now. Although, the current line up has been playing music together for probably about 1 to 2 years. The band has suffered member changes since the beginning but the dudes who are playing together right now are here to stay.

What is the local extreme metal scene like in Las Vegas, and what was it like growing up in the shadows of the casinos with aspirations of being a musician?
The metal scene in Vegas over the last few years has been suffocating, it used to be much better and then it went downhill over the time. But it seems like more and mroe kids are coming out recently and it may be having another chance to yet again flourish. But of course seeing The Rat Pack and Frank Sinatra everywhere at home is quite the aspiration to live up to!

How did you wind up signing to Metal Blade Records?
Our other guitarist, Robbie, recorded and put out the self-titled with Twelve Gauge records. There was some touring off of this record that caught the attention of Metal Blade and basically it was Robbie's decision to sign with the label in January of 08.

What exactly is the Molotov Solution, and what made you decide to use the name for your band?
Well if anyone out there are big fans of the band Adamantium then they should know! It's the name of one of their songs. But considering our message, it's just a fitting name for an anti-corporate establishment band... a solution of things using a molotov cocktail, quite a strong symbol to get the point across.

Is there any story or concept behind the CD title The Harbinger?
The concept is that the people, the politicians, the events happening around us everyday are all signs foreshadowing a terrible, disastrous future. A Harbinger is something or someone that foreshadows tragedy in stories. Such as the old man in the streets in Julius Caesar" who would beware Caesar of the "Ides of March", this character was a Harbinger just as Barack Obama is, or seeing signs in stores that say Recession are, or even just watching the news and hearing the anchors drop little hints of coming days.

Please cite a few songs on The Harbinger and what inspired you to write the lyrics.
My favorite songs lyrics-wise would have to be Corpus Imperium and Living Proof. Corpus' lyrics deal with trying to see things for how they really are, such as the lines "The machine fueled by blood, Globalization..." or "..not a democracy or a free-market economy, but an oppressive fascist corporatocracy." Living Proof appeals to me because it's a calling for a stand to mobilize against the RFID chip and governments using fear and deceit to oppress their nations into submitting and doing what we need to do for them.

What was it like working with Tim Lambesis on your CD and what kind of contribution and input did he have on your music?
Tim along with Kelly and Daniel at Lambesis studios were all talented and professional dudes. We were all really able to bounce ideas off of each other back and forth and i found it very helpful in the production of the album. They've all been doing this for a while so their ideas were brilliant, just made the recording process easier.

How has The Artery Metal tour been going and what have been some of the highlights?
The tour went fantastically, all the bands were amazing to us and were amazing on stage. Some of the highlights would have to be Montreal, Canada, so much support up there and we loved it, along with Nashville, Miami, Waco, and the list just goes on. The tour was successful and so many kids came out to show their support for the whole package, it's hard to pick highlights because so much of it was beneficial and fun. Beer is definitely one of the biggest highlights though.

What could one expect from a live Molotov Solution show?
One could expect to hopefully banging their head so much and non-stop that their head explodes, and lots of intensity and brutality to sing along to or just move to. And if anyone wanted to they could expect to party with us right after, wherever, whenever.

What is it you'd like a listener to remember the most after hearing The Harbinger for the very first time?
To not forget that laziness, and the mentality that we the people have no say in what happens because we're all doomed anyway, only exists because people possess that mentality. That one day people will notice that there is hope for REAL change, and that it is inevitably coming.

Any messages for metal fans here in the Los Angeles area?
We love you bastards, come to a show, say hi, drink with me, smoke with me, headbang with me!
