Movements: Hitting The Highway In Support Of Feel Something

Movements is an up-and-coming post hardcore/emo collective who are now hitting the highways of America in support of their Feel Something debut full length on Fearless Records.  After a summer toiling through the rabid heat and scheduling maze known as the Vans Warped Tour, Movements is looking forward to playing the small clubs once more with a generally intact schedule.  Also on this cross country adventure is Home Safe, With Confidence, and headliners Knuckle Puck – and these four wondrously exciting bands render this a tour not to be missed!  Just prior to hitting the road, Highwire Daze Online caught up with Movement’s charismatic vocalist Patrick Miranda to find out more about their just commencing tour as well as their upcoming Feel Something endeavor.  Read on…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Movements, and how long the band has been together.
My name is Patrick Miranda,I sing in Movements, and we’ve been together for almost three years.

Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like there?
Movements is based out of Orange County, CA. Our hometown music scene is actually really strong. There have been some awesome bands that have come out of our area, like Stick To Your Guns, Local Natives, and Young The Giant just to name a few!

Is there any overall story or concept behind the full length title Feel Something?
There’s not necessarily a concept behind the record as a whole. We really just wanted our music to make an impact on people. So much of what you hear in music these days, whether it’s on the radio or not, just feels so meaningless and fake. We’ve always written our music from an honest, real, genuine place and I think that’s really important. We want our listeners to experience the music, not just listen to it. We want them to literally Feel Something.

What is the lyrical inspiration behind the first single Colorblind?
I wrote Colorblind after a bad break up. I was pretty emotionally unstable for a while and I just wasn’t in a good place. I would try to date around, but inevitably I would lose interest and drop whoever I was seeing. I felt numb, like I wasn’t capable of feeling anything for anyone. Since I’m color blind in real life, I used that as an analogy for love in this song.

Select any other song from Feel Something and what inspired the lyrics.
I think Deadly Dull is one of the most impactful songs on this record. It’s about watching someone you love suffer from Alzheimer’s or dementia. In this case, the song is about my girlfriend’s grandfather. He suffers from Alzheimer’s, so when his wife passed away last year he couldn’t really comprehend what was happening. He stills asks to go see her. I was there with them the night she passed and seeing him in such a distraught state of confusion really fucked me up. That’s why I chose to write about it.

Who produced Feel Something and what was it like working with him?
We worked with Will Yip for this record as well as our first EP that we put out last year. Both experiences were absolutely awesome. Will is one of the most talented people I’ve ever met, and it seems like everything he works on is pure gold. The amount of great records he has produced is unreal and we would never want to work with anyone else.

What are looking forward to the most about your upcoming tour with Knuckle Puck?
I’m really excited to see how people react to us playing the new music live. It’s been so long since we’ve put out new music and everyone has been dying for it. I can’t wait to see how crazy the crowds get for the new stuff!

How do you think doing a tour like this will compare to a summer on Warped Tour?
This sort of tour is very much what we’re used to. I’m really excited to get back into some smaller rooms with no barricades so that the crowd is free to have an awesome time.

What could one expect from a live Movements show?
Lots of stagedives.

Any strange or scary happenings on the road or at a show?
For the sake of keeping this interview PG I think I’m gonna have to pass on this particular question!

Any final words of wisdom?
It sounds cliche, but do what you love. Follow your heart. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something that you love. Life is short, live it the way YOU want to, not how someone else thinks you should be living it.

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions!
Thanks for having me!
