Original Sin by In Dying Arms (Tragic Hero Records)
In Dying Arms has been devastating the world at large and beyond since 2006 – and to celebrate their 10th year in existence, the band has unleashed their most ferocious effort to date. Original Sin is In Dying Arm’s fourth magnum opus, a compelling amalgamation of deathcore, post hardcore and raging metal that should enrapture all fans of imaginative extreme music. Their first album since 2012’s Boundaries on Artery Recordings, Original Sin is their debut for Tragic Hero and the album is certainly well worth the wait! Based out of the burgeoning Boston, MD music scene, In Dying Arms is destined to breakthrough in a vast and epic way at last, especially if Original Sin is indicative of greater glories ahead.
Intriguing introductions ensue with the haunting Usurper, followed by the title cut Original Sin which absolutely pummels the senses! A visit from the Skeleton Queen commences, thrashing the listener with its relentless refrains. Caught In The Balance is extreme artistry at its most cosmic and severe. For What You Believe In (Stand Up) places the pedal to the metal, thrashing you into another galaxy of pure auditory bliss.
Kingslayer is a thrilling highlight, featuring a stunning guest appearance by Dan Watson of Enterprise Earth. Here’s hoping In Dying Arms and Enterprise Earth tour together in the very near future, and perform this epic track live!
Absence Of Shame shows an entirely different side to In Dying Arms, still supremely heavy yet containing a highly emotional chorus that launches this cut into the stratosphere. Wading through the sludgy reprieves of Blackwater, one finds a band at the height of their creative energies.
Parasite infects the universe with its harsh attack into the heart the matter, followed by the unearthly barrage of sound entitled Valar Morghulis, which should set hardcore pits into massive overdrive. And what a wonderful treat to encounter the explosive reveries of Dreamcatcher, showing In Dying Arms pushing the envelope into the next dimension. And then closing out Original Sin is the seismic activity of Mother Huldra – one last earth shattering tune that leaves a decidedly indelible impression.
The 2016 In Dying Arms lineup features the expansive talents of Orion Stephens on vocals, Christian Becker on guitar and vocals, John Myers on guitar, Terence Bright on bass, and Alvin Richardson on drums. Original Sin by is a staggering masterwork of extreme proportions that should launch In Dying Arms into their next decade of unbridled sonic terror. Be sure to catch In Dying Arms on their upcoming headlining tour, which includes a local stop at White Oak Music & Arts on April 26th!
