Restoring Force by Of Mice & Men (Rise Records)
Of Mice & Men, one of the most popular bands in the scene, are back with a record that is going to redefine what people think when they here the name “Of Mice & Men”. After a number of line up changes, band members leaving, they have finally established a permanent line-up and released their long awaited third album, Restoring Force, and it is surely something special and unique.
Opening with the song Public Service Announcement, the band bonds together to form a new sound that steers far away from the typical flow of hardcore music. From the very first track you can hear that they put all of their heart and soul into each and every note. With lyrics from vocalist Austin Carlile such as “You’re not alone when you’re with me” he emits a sense of unity to every listener out there. Also, a new and exciting treat is the newest member Aaron Pauley (formerly of Jamie’s Elsewhere) who sings the clean vocals as well as plays bass. These two together make the lyrics and passion flow in perfect fashion.
Without taking out the famous Of Mice sound and style, guitarists Alan Ashby and Phil Manansala along with drummer Valentino “Tino” Arteaga bring a sense of force that is sure to be a punch in the face (In a good way!).
Restoring Force shows influences from tons of popular bands from the past and present but they haven’t forgotten about the Of Mice & Men that we all know and love. With heavier songs such as You Make Me Sick and Bones Exposed, the intensity of the band as a whole is not missing.
All in all, Of Mice & Men isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. They are breaking away with their unique sound and will go on to accomplish more than they already have. Of Mice & Men has done what they set out to do and have definitely Restored Force.
