Her Bright Skies present a smashing combination of pop punk and post hardcore, coming up with a wildly infectious sound that should win them a whole lot of ardent fans worldwide. Based in the small town of Jönköping, Sweden, Her Bright Skies has opened for the likes of Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon, and 30 Seconds To Mars. Judging by what’s heard on their brand spanking new full length Rivals, it won’t be long before the Swedish collective is headlining their own shows whether it be in Scandinavia or well beyond. Rivals features 11 exciting tracks that will instantly send the listener blissfully soaring through the wondrous melodies and intensive vocals.
The disc kicks off in a grand and glorious way with a mighty rockin’ anthem entitled Working Class Punx, a tune destined to be the calling card for this band on the rise. Up & Away then commences, with its vibrant modern rock inflections and spiraling choruses sending positive vibes throughout.
Bonnie and Clyde (The Revolution) is an absolutely thrilling track that will make you want to take on the world, especially when encountering its stunning refrains. Lovekills is the first single from Rivals, a slamming effort that comes at you with a ferocious amount of passion and conviction. Pain then spins into the room with its strong sense of urgency.
Title track Rivals is the perfect mix of heavy and lightness, showing Her Bright Skies at their most diverse and resourceful. The wistful I’ll Be For You follows, featuring the poignant lyrics, “I’ll be the flowers that you place on your casket, I’ll the love we knew would never last…” – a definite stand-out track that should be devastating when performed live. The album then swings into powerhouse gear with the emotionally charged You Are The Ones, discussing family issues that tug at the heartstrings.
Diamonds is a dazzling gem of a track featuring some powerful screamed vocals. Debutante is victorious and staggering, with the vocals Johan Brolin singing, “I want to live in the sky, I want to hear the angels cry” with a striking amount of fervor. And then closing out Rivals on a fierce note is Sweet Sweet Revenge, where Her Bright Skies rock it out into sheer oblivion.
The aforementioned Johan Brolin as an exciting, charismatic front man whose vocalists send the heartfelt lyrics soaring into the stratosphere. The musicianship in the band is remarkably tight and enthusiastic, featuring fine contributions by Niclas Sjostedt on guitar, Peter Nilsson on guitar and vocals), Jolie Karlsson on bass and vocals, and Jonas Gudmundsson on drums. Production work is top notch, courtesy of Shep Goodman (Four Year Strong, Bayside) and Aaron Accetta (Forever The Sickest Kids, He Is We). The final mix, as presented noted producer / engineer Mike Plotnikoff (All American Rejects, My Chemical Romance, Bon Jovi) is nothing short of extraordinary.
Rivals by Her Bright Skies is the triumphant breakthrough album most bands dream about unleashing, and its destined to inspire and delight rock and roll fans from all over the globe. Expect to hear a lot more from this massively talented Swedish outfit in 2013 and for the many years to follow. These guys possess staying power well beyond any current trends and fad style – a timeless, inviting album that fans will want to be revisit endlessly.
