With lyrical content relating to nature, wintry landscapes, and the infinite universe, the mighty Stryvigor is sure to captivate all whom encounter their rapturous reveries. Here is a recent interview we conducted with guitarist Khladogard to uncover the grand mysteries and wonder of Stryvigor. Read on…
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Stryvigor, and how long the band has been in existence. Where are you based out of and what is your local music scene like there?
Hails! I’m Khladogard — guitarist and music author of Stryvigor. Band was founded in September 2012 in small city Khmelnytskyi in western Ukraine. If you mean Khmelnytskyi scene — then I do not have something to boast about, ha-ha. There are few pop-rock and core bands, are not particularly well-known. And if you mean about Ukrainian scene in general — we have it powerful, one of the best in Europe!
How has the current unrest in the Ukraine affected your music and art, if at all?
The situation in Ukraine is hard, but it is not a source of inspiration for me, and by and large does not affect our art.
Is there any story or concept behind the CD title Forgotten By Ages?
Modern person is too concerned about his future, as a result, he forgets about his past, “cross out” it with his life. Forgets his history and origin, doesn’t realize that there is no future without a past. Is no longer appreciate nature, destroy it for his own benefit; forget the heroes who gave their lives for the sake of the new, and it is very sad. By our music we want to recall even a small number of people what were respected by our ancestors thousands of years ago, have to appreciate and remember today.
Select two songs from Forgotten By Ages and what inspired the lyrics.
Wherever the stars — my favorite song from the album, fully written by me starting the lyrics, ending music. By this song I wanted to show the beauty, majesty and danger of nature, this is what inspired me to write it.
To Heroes — another favorite song, the lyrics of which wrote Dusk. It is dedicated to all the heroes who throughout history have fought for Ukrainian land and hard fought for its independence.
Who created the cover art for Forgotten By Ages and how much input did you have on it?
All design was made by our familiar Unholy Darkness. Were painted 5 paintings by oil, each song a separate plot. Of course, before that I explained in detail that I want to see in result, and her work arranged me well.
What could one expect from a live Stryvigor show?
Judging by the comments of those who have seen our live concert, you should expect a high quality show and atmospheric performances in general.
One of the most famous and controversial bands to come out of the Ukraine is Nokturnal Mortum? How have they influenced your music and have you ever met them or seen them live?
I can not say that Nokturnal Mortum have influenced on our music, here it is different, both in structure and in concept. You can only hear some similarities inherent in all things black metal. Personally, I was on their concert twice, and it was cool.
Are you involved with any other bands or projects outside of Stryvigor?
Yes, Dusk work with his BM-band “Endless Ballte”, Rungvar plays in the local death metal band “Hectic” and is a session drummer of “Kroda”. I am now engaged in another interesting project that will be released soon, and I play guitar in “Kroda”. Lyutobor also has its atmospheric project in their city.
What is favorite Ukrainian beer of choice and why?
Our favorite beer is Dunkel, a dark beer by Lvivs’ke production. It has a unique taste that differentiates it from other beers.
Any final words of wisdom?
Be yourself, trust only yourself. Appreciate what is around you, and do not forget your origins!
Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions! Hope to see your band here in the States one day!
