TRUTH IS… by TEN AFTER TWO (Rise Records)
Rise Records just keeps signing up impressive acts, and this time around its a post hardcore band from Sacramento who goes by the name of Ten After Two. Fans of earlier Rise entities such as The Devil Wears Prada and Drop Dead, Gorgeous are sure to find a new favorite when encountering the melodic yet nevertheless heavy compositions spewed forth by this up and coming collective of talent. While their previous EP If You Don’t First was indicative of good things to come, Trust Is… definitely fulfills the promise tenfold. A fully realized effort destined to gain the band a good deal of notice.
The disc kicks off with a staggering piece of devastation simply titled Yes, guaranteed to reel the listener in with its all out intensity. The serious business continues with the big and soaring Before You Know It and reverberates on through the sonic strains of Dead After Dallas.
Satan’s Slumber Party is a lot fiery fun, an infernal opus complete with searing guitar, a chilling chorus, and a tighter than hell rhythm section. Anxious follows with a sense of immensity and unease, complete with a truly ominous conclusion. Well, Oh Well is fast paced and driving, making you want to dive head first into a fully rabid mosh pit.
The title cut Truth Is.. is a highlight, showing each and every one of the Ten After Two membership at their most compelling and resoureful. Next up is the Interlude in D Minor, an atmospheric instrumental followed by the truly stunning The Awe Song, where the band really let’s loose on the heaviness department.
“Can you see through the gray?” the band inquires passionately on Sight At Sea, an exciting track of emotional depth that hits full force at the listener. A definite standout on Truth Is… to be sure.
And then concluding the album on a dark and introspective note is Believe Me, a quiet reverie of a track showing just how effective and resourceful the band can be with a power ballad.
A grand slam beginning to what could surely be a successful career, Ten After Two score in a big and glorious way with Truth Is…
Soaring clean vocals and brutal screamo inflections abound, and the instrumental contribution is well above what’s normally expected in the genre.
The talented Ten After Two lineup consists of Sean Wall on vocals, Patrick Hennion on guitar, Vincent Adorno on drums, Josh Doty on guitar and vocals, and Danny Clark on bass. Be sure to catch Ten After Two on the Rise Records tour throughout the months of May and June – if their live show is a effective as what’s heard on the debut full length, expect to truthfully be blown away by the intensity.
