The Goodnight Dream

Times Infinity by The Goodnight Dream (Self-released EP)

In the wake of success of bands such as Owl City and Breathe Carolina, hundreds of electronic pop entities have popped up all over the Internet, all with varying degrees of success and talent. The Goodnight Dream definitely falls in the talented category, and is well on their way to establishing a name for themselves beyond the vast confines of Myspace. The man behind the music is Josh Grandy of Spokane, WA, and he’s just released his second collection of infectious songs on Itunes entitled Times Infinity.

The eight songs featured possess the soundtrack of a blissful dream, one that many a listener will want to share. Opening Times Infinity with the swirling reveries of Let’s Pretend We’re Shapes, Grandy instantly wins the listener over with dazzling beats and thoughtful lyrics. Last But Not Least continues the kaleidoscope of wondrous sound while Someone I’m Not is introspective as well as danceable.

Oceanic Paradise is warm and sweeping in scope, and definitely one of the most imaginative tracks on the recordings. Another definite highlight is the sweet and romantic I Am Yours, demonstrating just how effective of a songwriter and performer Josh Grandy is.

Calling is moving ballad that is highly expressive and cautiously hopeful. Get Down When We’re Up closes the album on a hypnotically upbeat note – surely a tune whose singalong chorus will jangle in your head long after the disc spins to its conclusion.

Times Infinity is a low-fi, homespun affair, and therein lies its charm. In the grand DIY fashion, this recording is one from the heart, and many are bound to respond in kind to what The Goodnight Dream has to offer. It will be exciting to see where Josh Grandy goes next with his glorious musical compositions.
