The creation of Landon Tewers formerly of Before Their Eyes, The Plot In You is brutal hardcore combined with darkly compelling lyrical imagery. Under their old moniker Vessels, their EP Wifebeater was unleashed. Their record label inVogue (owned by Nick Moore, also formerly of Before Their Eyes) will be re-releasing Wifebeater with a bonus track under the new moniker. We recently emailed Landon Tewers to discover more about The Plot In You…
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in The Plot In You, and how long the band has been together.
My name is Landon, I play vocals, and I’ve been in this band for about 2 years now (kinda). Just recently became serious.
Where is the band based out of and what is the music scene like there?
We’re based out of a little town called Findlay Ohio, where the music scene is non-existent. Kids here still wear Goth pants and Korn shirts.
Are there any stories or concepts behind the EP title Wifebeater?
Yes. All the lyrics are inspired by true stories. I had a lot of friends growing up that went through absolute torture.
Where did you get the ideas for some of the song lyrics on the EP – please cite two songs and what the lyrics are about?
Like I said, true stories, some I added my own spin on it, but they’re all based on real events. The song Clots is about a kid that’s kind of an outcast. He’s 18 years old, has never had a girlfriend, and doesn’t have friends. He has a thing for a girl at his school. He becomes obsessed with her and considers raping her since he knows he’ll never actually have a chance. It’s about him fighting with himself over whether or not he should do it. The song Guts is about the father of that girl that he rapes finding out and coming to kill him.
How close are you guys to recording a full length CD?
Just started writing actually, one song completely done and tons of ideas/riffs. There’s definitely going to be a lot of surprises.
How difficult of a decision was it for you to leave Before The Eyes?
It was something I had been fighting with myself about for a while. I just really wasn’t happy anymore. I knew my heart wasn’t in it, and I knew it was time to move on. It was just really hard because those guys are my best friends, but they’re very supportive. We’ll always be close friends. No matter what.
What do you find in The Plot In You that you could not find in Before Your Eyes?
I’m a hardcore kid at heart, always have been always will be. To be able to write anything I want is awesome. Especially lyric wise. I just have a lot more creative freedom, and playing live shows is just so intense with this project. I connect with it better.
Are you still working with The Antic or The Path Of Cyrus? What has happened with those projects?
Well The Path Of Cyrus was my band like 3 years ago now. That’s long gone. The Antic was never really anything serious, just a Myspace where I could upload a soft song to like once a year.
Tell me a little about the artwork on the EP and what made you decide to use it?
Looked sweet, fit the idea.
Would you consider The Plot In You to be a Christian band at all? The lyrics seem pretty brutal…
The Plot In You is not a Christian band.
Any chance of The Plot In You playing in the Los Angeles or OC area?
Oh definitely, hopefully late summer, early fall.
Any strange or unusual Myspace stories you could share?
Someone offered to send me their toe that had been cut off in a lawn mower accident.
Any final words of wisdom?
Don’t keep your social security card in your wallet.
