Based out of the Phoenix, AZ area, The Rendering is a new metallic hardcore band who has just unleashed their debut EP on the up-and-coming record label Authentik INK. Entitled Protector, the music was mixed and mastered by Stephan Hawke, whose own impressive credits include American Me and Chelsea Grin. Protector is an exciting, impassioned work, guaranteed to gain The Rendering an appreciative fan base all across the country. Here is a recent interview we conducted with guitarist Dan Marinaro to find out more about this promising new collective…
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in The Rendering, and how long the band has been together.
Dan- guitar, Eric- Vocals, Andrew- Bass, Aaron- Guitar, Danny- drums. The band has been together since November of 09! But Me (Dan) Eric and Aaron are the 3 original members.
What city in Arizona is your band from and what is your local music scene like there?
We are from Phoenix, our scene is really awesome, it has been pretty off and on over the past few years but I think it’s at a very strong point right now.
Is there any story or concept behind the EP title Protector?
No not really. When we wrote Protector and decided it was one of our favorite songs, we decided it would be a good name for the CD
Where did you get the idea for some of the other song lyrics? Please cite two songs from Protector and what the lyrics are about.
I get my inspiration actually from a lot of movies. The Gift is about being mislead to believe something that in the end turns on you. Thanks A Mil is about not letting anyone stop you or get you down from doing what you want, and being fueled by hatred.
What could one expect from a live The Rendering show?
A ton of energy from the stage, and a ton of friends hanging out having an awesome time.
Who did the artwork for the EP and how much input did you guys have on it?
Edgil Pagadun, he’s a buddy of Eric’s from Australia. We just told him what the CD was called and he went off from there and sent the finished piece back and we were really stoked with it.
What did producer Stephan Hawkes contribute to the overall recording process?
Ah man, Stephan rules! He did the mixing and mastering and really helped bring out our sound. He was really cool to work with and a really cool dude.
Has The Rendering ever played here in the Los Angeles area or plan to do so in the future?
No we actually haven’t, but we are definitely going to be within these next coming months
Who are some of the bigger bands you have opened for in the past and what was that experience like?
We’ve had the opportunity to open up for a few national bands, American Me, I Am Ghost, but without a doubt the coolest dudes are our friends in Greeley Estates. We live in the same city so we get the chance to play with them every so often, they are super rad.
What do you think makes The Rendering stand apart from other metal/hardcore bands?
We’re a pretty young band, none of us are actually older than 20. We also all originally have played different styles of music then what we do now before we all came together in The Rendering.
What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most after hearing your EP for the very first time?
A sense of adrenaline and excitement. We want people to be excited to listen to it again and eventually come see us live!
Any final words of wisdom?
From the wise words of Dr. Steve Brule : “Don’t let the turkeys get you down, you gotta fly like an eagle, not like a turkey…”
