Los Angeles Four-Piece Joins Acrobats for Select SHAPESHIFTER Performances

(LOS ANGELES) – Creating a novel concert experience that fuses aerial performance a la Cirque du Soleil with live rock and roll – The Shakers announce the second installment of their collaborative, 360-degree theatrical production: SHAPESHIFTER. A total of six showings will take place at Way 2 Much Entertainment in Los Angeles, running Friday and Saturday nights from May 1 through May 16.

The brainchild of aerialist virtuoso Jordann Baker, SHAPESHIFTER portrays the enthralling journey of four souls who advance from darkness to light in their pursuit of self-realization. Baker explores dichotomous relationships of trials and triumph – of struggle and liberation – as she leads a team of professional counterparts to enact the story through skilled, intricate movements. The Shakers provide a riveting soundtrack, performing their recent full-length album, Rescue Team, in its entirety. Deemed “transformative” and “breathtaking,” SHAPESHIFTER effectively distinguishes itself as a one-of-a-kind spectacular; a multifaceted tour de force.

Jodie Schell, frontwoman of The Shakers, plays the story’s Shaman – using her compelling vocals to guide the souls on their quest. She attributes last year’s sold-out performances to Baker’s ability to connect with her audiences.

“This show is so unique in the way it touches people,” said Schell. “The feats are larger than life, but it ignites something personal in every audience member. I love watching that each night.”

Seeking a live band accompaniment to adrenaline-infused acrobatic stunts, Baker gained the motivation to write and direct SHAPESHIFTER after attending The Shakers’ 2013 Rescue Team album release show at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. Upon successfully crowdfunding the production on Indiegogo – exceeding a $10,000 goal in solely one month – Baker and crew debuted SHAPESHIFTER in the spring of 2014. SHAPESHIFTER has earned praise from LA Weekly, in addition to recognition from Picksysticks and – through which Rescue Team ranks among its Top 50 Albums of 2013.

The Shakers revealed the official trailer to this year’s SHAPESHIFTER on their Facebook page last week. Tickets are still available and may be purchased online through Brown Paper Tickets.

SHAPESHIFTER is produced by Banyan Aerial, Tongue&Chic Productions and Graham Skipper, in association with Artistic Evolución, Inc. Further information may be found on the event’s website.

Labeled “The Black Keys meets Heart” and “AC/DC meets The Supremes” hybrids, The Shakers offer a missing link between soul and grit-rock. Loud, unapologetic masters of the stage domain, the band has opened for acts such as Everclear, Our Lady Peace and The Motels. The group has also headlined sold-out shows at seminal Los Angeles venues, including The Roxy Theatre, The Troubadour, The Satellite and The Viper Room.
