Through The Fire is a hardcore band based out of the Chicago area who are really beginning to garner a good deal of notice. Incessant touring has certainly paved their way to success – and their new Hotfoot release The World At Our Feet should continue to gain the band a decent following all across the nation. Here is an interview we recently conduced with one of the TTF members…
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Through The Fire, and how long the band has been together.
I’m Vasilios I write the lyrics and do vocals in the band. We have been together since the summer of 2005
Where is the band based out of and what is the local music scene like there?
We are from a small suburb called Elmwood Park about 20 minutes from downtown Chicago. The local scene is great, almost everyone in the bands around here are friends so support is there from everyone’s fans.
Is there any story or concept behind the CD title The World At Our Feet?
The CD its self is negative in the sound of the music and the lyrics its self. The line The World At Our Feet is usually taken as a positive thought, if you look at it the world is not black and white its all shaded. Everyone has the world at their feet but doesn’t seem to want to make it a better place for the future. The CD cover captures it nicely.
Where do you get the ideas for some of the lyrics on your CD? Please cite two songs and what the lyrics are about.
I usually write when I’m upset or frustrated, just a bunch of stuff building up.
“I have not respect for you or the bullshit that you pull, All we give is all you take. And we sit in content as you fuck our scene we’ve done nothing. Put your, put your money where your mouth is”- Witness and Trial– is about this shitty promoter/booker who has screwed us over multiple times, then we finally said enough is enough and made a point that people shouldn’t go to his shows, we wrote this song about him.
“I always counted on the fact, Depended on the thought, You were always there, Always by my side” – As I Rise – I wrote this song because I notices how a lot of “friends” begin to drift apart and do shady things to you. Some times your best friends become strangers.
How did you wind up signing to Hotfoot Records?
We played a few shows with Ambush! and ended up getting to be good friends with each other. I noticed they were signed to Hotfoot Records, went to their page checked them out and contacted them a few months later. After talking back and forth we agreed to join the Hotfoot Family
How is your search for a bass player coming along, and how frustrating has it been to lose and replace members?
We have found a bass player as of now. It is very frustrating to keep trying out people and dealing with all the drama and stress it brings when someone decides to leave (on tour, a few days before tour, Ect…)
What is a live Through The Fire show like for those of us who have yet to see you play?
High energy, a lot of jumping around and movement, heavy sounds, and we’d like to think the kids watching us are enjoy us laying it all out there while they dance and let out aggression.
Have you ever played in the Los Angeles / Orange County area, or plan to do so in the future?
We have played in the Palmdale area a couple times. I heard it’s not to far away from Los Angeles. We for one love playing California shows – always good turn outs and there has been a good reaction to us since the first time we played in Cali. We plan to come around there a lot and hit up as many areas as we can.
Are you or any other Through The Fire members involved with any other projects at the moment?
We don’t like to be in other project because we like to think this should be the only project that should get 100 percent of everyone in this band’s attention. We do help out our friends if they are in need – I (Vasilios) wrote lyrics, recorded a demo, and played a handful of shows with my friend’s band VERSION.
Why should someone run out right now and snag a copy of The World At Our Feet?
It’s a CD that keeps you on your toes. Sounds heavy and the lyrics are pretty good and have meaning behind them, and it would make our mothers proud.
If you guys were invited to appear on a Hardcore Goes Pop tribute, what pop song would you chose to cover and why?
Probably a Jackson 5 song. Who doesn’t like the Jackson 5?
Have you ever performed The Reality live with Frankie from Monsters? Would the two bands ever want to tour together?
We have played that song once with Frankie, two days after we recorded it, on Monsters tour kick off show. We are all good friends and hope we can hit the road with them soon.
What’s up next for Through The Fire?
Right now we are writing new material and hope to record in December. After that we plan I hitting up the East Coast and Mid-West a little during everyone’s winter break.
Any final words of wisdom?
Be real to the music you listen to and write. If you don’t feel it or like it, it’s just noise…
