Tim Hatten: Going The Distance

Tim Hatten is a talented singer / songwriter based out of Smalltown USA – and he is certainly ready to go the distance when it comes a career in music.  Thanks in part to social media such as Facebook and Pure Volume, Tim is beginning to get to the word out well beyond the confines of his hometown.  Ready to kick off the New Year with an EP entitled Distance, Tim is an artist on the rise who’s catchy tunes are well worth seeking out.  Our interview with Tim Hatten commences now…

What was the name of the very first song you wrote, how old were you, and what was the song about?
Wasted Time” and I was 15. It was about when someone wastes your time haha.

How old are you now, what city are you based out of, and what is the music scene like there?
I am 16, and I live in Perryville, Missouri. The music scene? What music scene? It’s just me and a post-hardcore band haha.

Is there any story or concept behind the EP title Distance?
Um, yeah, it’s about me trying to achieve my dream. Of making it in the music business and getting my music out to everyone possible. “Distance” means exactly that… the “distance” between me and my goal, and this EP shortening it.

Select two songs from Distance and what inspired the lyrics.
Stay With Me – It was about my girlfriend at the time. Who when we started dating, broke up with me because she still loved her ex. And THEN, like 3 days later we got back together haha. It was a mess, but it’s basically about me not wanting her to leave me again. Seeing as the name is, Stay With Me.

Lost – This is definitely the most “raw” song on the EP. There is almost no editing on the song whatsoever. It’s pretty much a straight recording. I did this because of the song’s meaning, It’s about me being “lost” in my own mind. I don’t want to go into too much details about that, because I’ll literally go on forever haha.

What could one expect from a live Tim Hatten show?
A party. I just wanna’ have fun. If I mess up, I’ll laugh with you. I talk to you while playing a song. I jump around, it’s crazy. If you consider yourself a “fan” of my music, you definitely need to come out to a show!

If you could open up for any artist and band either current or from the past, who would that be and why?
Oh man.. Umm.. Probably “The All-American Rejects“. They have been my favorite band forever haha. And a HUGE influence on the way I write my lyrics.

If your music was a donut, what kind would it be and why?
hahahahahaha. I guess it’d be a bear claw. Because I’m a sexual music beast on the prowl.
HAHAHAHA! I WISH. I’m not cool enough for that.

What made you decide to cover the Mayday Parade or Enrique Iglesias songs?
I wanted to cover those because those songs are amazing. “Hero” is one of my favorite songs ever, and so is “Miserable At Best“.

Any strange or wonderful Facebook stories you could share?
Hmm… Well, this one time this girl messaged me, and I replied of course. And well, she freaked out. She thought it was the coolest thing ever haha. And then she sent me a video of her crying saying how much she loved me. It was pretty crazy haha. Usually my fans are very well kept, but I guess she lost it for a while haha.

What’s up in the New Year for you?
2013 is going to be the year of the Hatten. So much music, so much awesomeness coming from me in 2013.

Any final words of wisdom?
Life is more fun when you’re having fun. So have fun.
