Tom Keifer, Madysin Hatter, Kama Sutures, The Whisky, September 24, 2015
Tom Keifer and his rock solid band were certainly one of the glorious highlights at the recent Cathouse Live at Irvine Meadows. One of the few bands on the bill who actually had a new album out they were actively promoting, Keifer and Company were very much at home home on the Main Stage, unleashing a performance that filled the vast Irvine Meadows with the spacious sounds of hard rock and roll. Imagine taking the gigantic show into the confines of The Whisky and packing the place to the rafter with rabid Keifer/Cinderella fans? That’s exactly what happened on a Thursday night on the Sunset Strip, where Tom Keifer and band presented a mesmerizing performance that nearly blew the roof off the legendary Sunset Strip establishment. The opening acts presented their own sets of magic, starting with the intriguing Kama Sutures, who enraptured the crowd with their gorgeous, indie alternative tunes. Fronted by the captivating Francesca J who danced and sang her way into the psyche on the Whisky crowd hell-bent to rock, the entire Kama Sutures membership presented an exotic show of the avant-garde variety that was absolutely thrilling to witness. You can bet Highwire Daze will be revisiting this band in the future.
When we first caught up with direct support act Madysin Hatter, the massively talented singer rocked the sox off the Whisky crowd at the Cathouse Live Battle Of The Bands. Although Madysin would not win one of the two coveted spots at the Irvine Meadows show, word was sent out fast and furious about Madysin Hatter and her bigger than life performance. And what a perfect opener Madysin Hatter and band turned out to be for the Tom Keifer band! Opening with a rollicking cover of Rock Your Heart Out by the one and only AC/DC, it was clear Madysin was winning over the Whisky crowd big time! Madysin’s stunning voice and epic personality were on full display, shining through in wonderful songs such as Lose My Mind and Black Velvet Snakebite. And how wickedly appropriate it was when Madysin and band burst into a joyous rendition of Love Me Two Times in the same place where Jim Morrison and The Doors infamously performed decades again! Very special guest Ace Von Johnson of Faster Pussycat turned up the heat towards the end of the set, joining Madysin Hatter on stage for a lively rendition of the Jukebox Jive. An infinitively triumphant performance from a spiraling talent we will be hearing a lot more about in the months ahead! It’s pretty apparent Madysin Hatter could perform any style of music, but the dazzling entertainer is a pure rock and roller at heart – and her live shows are not to be missed!
Cinderella was one of the most successful acts to come out of the glam metal era of rock and roll – a band whose timelessness would carry them into a brilliant career of memorable songs, all on full display at the world famous Whisky on the Sunset Strip. The wildly charismatic Tom Keifer has gone solo, recently issuing a vibrant new album of tunes entitled The Way Life Goes. Opening with the frenetic Falling Apart At The Seams from 1988’s Long Cold Winter, Keifer and Company set the room on fire, and the sonic explosions that would occur throughout the night were exciting to witness. One notices right away that Tom Keifer’s vocals and guitar playing remain in top form, displaying a passion and conviction that drove the classic Cinderella tunes into a whole new level of ultra-vivid life. The blistering rockers raged on throughout the set, with crowd favorites such as Heartbreak Station, Shelter Me, and Don’t Know What You Got bringing the crowd into an absolute state of euphoric rock and roll bliss. The songs from Keifer’s solo endeavor The Way Life Goes were extremely well received – choice cuts such as It’s Not Enough, Cold Day In Hell and Solid Ground showing an artist at the height of his creative prowess. Tom Keifer and his dynamic band brought back a lot of memories with their classic Cinderella songs, and there is little doubt that the fans will cherish this explosive night of compelling music for a very long time. Bringing rock and roll to a whole new generation of fans while still spellbinding the longtime converts, Tom Keifer continues to be one of the most passionate performers in music today! It will be exciting to see what the future has in store for Tom Keifer and his blazing hot solo career.
