Rookie Andrew Conroy Surrounds Himself with Members Of Sum 41, Goldfinger, Die Mannequin, Gob

Andrew Conroy’s path to stardom doesn’t begin with his band, RAIN CITY ROCKERS’ September 16, 2014 release of their debut album MAYDAY on Flashlight Music Group. In fact, the album itself is nothing more than the tip of Conroy’s musical iceberg.

The story of how Conroy got to his release date is one of incredible faith, charm and unquestionable talent. With a virtually empty resume of industry experience, Conroy used a collection of incredibly well-written, power-pop songs as his bargaining chip to entice and position himself as the frontman of Rain City Rockers, a seasoned band featuring members Tom Thacker (Sum 41, Gob), Anthony Bleed (Die Mannequin) and Darrin Pfeiffer (Goldfinger). Conroy introduced his band to the world through an exclusive interview with Substream Music Press (LINK) and before revealing the band’s first single, “Saint Babe” on New Noise Magazine’s website (LINK).

Album-Cover_RCR-ArtworkConroy’s path to Mayday began years ago. He became obsessed with a desire to create a raw and visceral album with limited processing and studio production. “I kinda got the idea a few years ago when I was in San Francisco,” Conroy explains. “I was going vinyl shopping and looking through all the record I had purchased, some Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, and the thing I really liked about those records is the fact that they were recorded live off the floor with no click tracks — with great musicians.” Attempting to bridge the gap between the 60s and 70s and the 21st century, Conroy took that concept to heart, gathering the band to record Mayday… in one day. Each track, from the power-pop influenced, drum and guitar heavy “Mindful Madness” and “Saint Babe” to the pop-ballad “On My Own” highlight the sincere approach to capturing the music. Every exaggerated drum solo and hyper-aggressively guitar riff stands bold and proud, presented as it. “The entire album was recorded live off the floor,” Conroy reveals. “I wanted to capture that feel with a modern sound. You may even hear some of our little mistakes – but I love the energy behind it. To me, the energy and feel is more important than making sure every note is perfectly in tune, or every drum hit is perfectly on time.”

Mayday is the result of that process. Conroy’s belief in his concept and the band’s faith in Conroy’s raw talents shine through in the energy and emotion found on the album. On September 16, 2014, with the release of Mayday, Rain City Rockers will supply that certainty to the world.

984Sixth studio album due out early 2015

SWEDEN – Greek/Swedish melodic death metal band, Nightrage, has signed a record/publishing deal with Swedish music company, Despotz. The band’s sixth studio album will surface in February 2015 with a new video/single to be unleashed this fall.

“Today we are proud to announce that we have signed an album deal with Despotz Records,” commented Marios Iliopoulos of Nightrage. “We are super excited to work with such a dedicated bunch of people, and we are entering studio Dugout Productions with Daniel Bergstrand on September 15. We would like to take this opportunity to now officially introduce Ronnie Nyman as our ‘new’ vocalist.”

“Dreams can really come true, Nightrage is a living proof of that,” added Ömer Akay, Despotz Records co-founder and partner. “I’m honored to be working with Marios and Nightrage; we truly have the same background and visions to take the band to the mainstream.”

Nightrage was founded in 2000 in Greece by Iliopoulos and his close friend Gus G. Heavily influenced by the Gothenburg metal scene, the band relocated to Sweden to accomplish its dreams.

During Nightrage’s career, various musicians from At The Gates, Evergrey, Dark Tranquility, Amaranthe and Firewind have lent their services, with founding member, Gus G., departing in 2009 to join Ozzy Osbourne. In its 14 years, Nightrage has released five studio albums and toured across Europe, the U.S., Canada and Asia.

Rippikoulu: Through Exquisite Darkness

rippikint1After a slumber of many years due to the passing of a band member, the exquisite darkness of Rippikoulu has returned with an all-out vengeance! Their latest MCD Ulvaja is now available from Svart Records - and it surely depressive doom metal in its finest hour. In addition to the new material, Svart has re-issuied Rippikoulu’s landmark debut album Musta Seremonia. Mystery and intrigue has surrounded the Finnish collective since their commencement, and now Highwire Daze attempts to unravels the enigmatic wonder known as Rippikoulu. Read on…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Rippikoulu and how long the band has been together.
Hello, this is Olli, guitarist of Rippikoulu. Band is formed back in 1989. So it has been long 25 years with Rippikoulu now. 1995 our second guitarist died and Rippikoulu took a break, almost 15 years. But now we are back together.

Where is Rippikoulu based out and what was is the local metal scene like there?
Our training place is in Valkeakoski Finland, just next to a place we used to train in 1990`s. Local metal scene in Valkeakoski? Nothing, except Rippikoulu. Finland is well known for its death metal scene tough.

How frustrating was it to wait 21 years to record new material and were you in other bands since then?
It wasn`t frustraiting at all. Becouse we had decided that Rippikoulu will never play again. It was 2010 when we decided to go jamming again and have some fun. Janne played in a rock-band in these years and I had couple of bands, but just for a fun. And we have a new drummer now and he has played in a lots of bands all the time.

riipikcd2Is there any story or concept behind the CD title Ulvaja?
You should ask Anssi (singer) who does the lyrics. But I think there is some kind of story behind that title. Ulvaja (Ulvajanniemi) is in fact a place where Rippikoulu was formed and we spent our youth. We love our Rippikoulu roots and Ulvaja is one way to show it.

Who did the cover art for Ulvaja and how much input did you have on it?
It is in fact a photo which is taken by Janne, our bassist. And it is a view just behind our training place. We think that it is perfect cover to a perfect title of EP.

rippikoulu-musta_seremonia1When you look back on your previous recording Musta Seremonia, what do you think of it now?
It is still a masterpiece. It has some rare details which are still excellent. And its atmosphere is unique. We love it. Considering it was done in two days and just for a fun.

How did your cooperation with Svart Records come about?
We had many many request to re-release Musta Seremonia in years 2000-2009. Then Svart contacted us and they were serious. It was Finnish starting label back then and deal contained LP version too. We decided to release Musta Seremonia with Svart and that was the beginning with our co-operation.

Has Rippikoulu ever performed live or plan to do so in future days?
We had many gigs all over Finland before 1995 (when Marko died). What happens in future, you never know. Everything, I mean everything is possible.

If Rippikoulu could open for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
Hard question. I have to be boring and say I really don’t know. I love many bands in many genres so it is hard to decide one band. But if I have to say one or two, it might be (old) Sentenced or My Dying Bride (old).

Will we have to wait another 21 years for the next Rippikoulu magnum opus?
Future is totally open. We might do a full length album or MCD or Rippikoulu might not be along us anymore in couple of years. We have other things in life too at the moment but we love playing together, so I really don’t know anything about the future.

What would like a listener to remember the most after hearing Ulvaja for the first time?
The dark atmosphere. When you look at the covers of Ulvaja and listen to it your feelings should be dark, desperate and sad.

Any final words of wisdom?
No, wise words does not come out of my mouth. Thank you for this interview and check out our new MCD Ulvaja.

AV Club Premieres New Video for “Your Head / Your Heart”

Connecticut rockers Hostage Calm shared the video for their new single “Your Head / Your Heart” on AV Club today. The Max Moore directed film visually plays on the classic pop elements that Hostage Calm blend with rock, punk and new wave. The track is off their up-coming full-length Die On Stage, arriving via Run For Cover Records on September 16th, 2014 (album art and tracklist below).

Watch the Video for “Your Head / Your Heart”

de9d035f-9102-4e5a-bbae-d3e699767c0dIn 2010, Hostage Calm funneled their heroes’ protest energy on their self-titled debut, and then found hope in political uncertainty on 2012’s critically acclaimed Please Remain Calm. This time around, Die On Stage celebrates the post-millennial fatalism in today’s youth culture, creating a message seldom found in pop-punk. The politically charged band continues to offer a genuine view of American culture through critical eyes.

The band entered Pennsylvania’s Studio 4 to produce their fourth full-length with Will Yip (Balance and Composure, Title Fight), as well as including long-time friend Vinnie Caruana (I Am the Avalanche, The Movielife) on the track “Raised”. The record will be out on the rapidly growing Run For Cover Records (Tigers Jaw, Modern Baseball, Basement, Pity Sex), which is run by Hostage Calm guitarist Tom Chiari.

Throughout Die On Stage, Hostage Calm expands on their own identity, adding Glockenspiel, pianos, organs and bells into their arrangements. The record captures a classic sound that Hostage Calm has developed into a progressive and original style.

Die On Stage Track Listing:
01) When You Know
02) A Thousand Miles Away From here
03) Love Against!
04) Someone Else
05) Fallen Angel
06) Your Head / Your Heart
07) Raised
08) 12/31
09) Darling You
10) Past Ideas Of The Future

Hostage Calm confront the darker realities of a modern America as a means of survival. In 2010, the critically acclaimed Connecticut band funneled their heroes’ protest energy into an optimistic hybrid of punk, pop and new wave, only to see rising hopes filtered out through the uncertainty of the Great Recession on 2012’s bruised Heartland rocker Please Remain Calm. Die on Stage celebrates the subsequent post-millennial fatalism permeating today’s youth culture with timeless grandeur. It’s not a political statement as so much it is an honest portrait of growing up in America, embracing all that is fleeting while clutching what semblance of decaying dreams remain for a generation future endeavored.

The band entered Pennsylvania’s Studio 4 space to produce their fourth full-length alongside the venerable Will Yip (Balance and Composure, Title Fight), choosing the recording auteur for his careful ear in magnifying strengths for a widescreen audience. Hostage Calm’s traditional foundation as a five-piece transcends past influences and furthers their own identity with Glockenspiel, pianos, organs and bells conjoined into their arrangements, creating a big, enchanting rock album stacked with infectious new classics.

At Die On Stage’s core are Hostage Calm’s endlessly evolving creativity placated against a fully engulfed existential crisis .The record is fighting for its life and for the love that has survived the emotional wreckage with lead singer Chris Martin’s romantic punk poetry battling dark, unforeseen interpersonal conflict and a loss of identity. This is a public diary of songs that both celebrates and vilifies those moments, and those feelings of emotional turmoil toppled onto Hostage Calm’s aim to create a new rock standard are what dig out a legacy.

“I’ve said before that ‘more than being remembered, I’d rather be worth remembering.’ I think this album strives to find that which is worth our precious memory,” says Martin. “It is in fact a memorial, a monument to the tumult and disenfranchisement that has become the centerpiece of American childhood. Not to spite it, or preach to it, but to embrace the sheer enormity of it for the sake of our own reveling.

ts3b_WebAdmat_1About Invent, Animate:
“With so much metalcore out these days, the best thing to do is be fresh. Invent, Animate does this,” says music critic Mike Bohn who reviewed the band’s first EP Waves. “They do a lot more than other bands out there and they do it well.”

Creating an idea and bringing it to life is what inspired the progressive metalcore band Invent, Animate to pursue their passion for spreading positive messages through their music. The group was formed on the cloudy Christmas Eve of 2011 in a small town east of Houston called Port Neches, Texas. Ben English (vocals), Logan Forrest (guitar), Keaton Goldwire (guitar), Caleb Sherraden (bass), and Trey Celaya (drums) came together through their mutual love of bands like Deftones, Underoath, and Norma Jean. They are heavily influenced by what these bands have to say and the way they carry themselves as musicians.

Invent, Animate are a highly energetic band that puts an unsullied look on the metalcore market. Their work is multi-dimensional and shows their ability to be very dynamic. Never fearful to be chaotic and crazy one minute, but then decelerate and bring a softer, more beautiful aspect the next. “We’re not afraid to slow it down, experiment with different vocal styles, and maybe even sing in a few parts,” says vocalist Ben English. In addition to performing at the South By So What?! festival, the group has shared the stages with Oh, Sleeper, Of Mice & Men, and Architects.

Invent, Animate recently signed with Tragic Hero Records and have plans to release their debut full-length Everchanger on 8/26/14. “It’s still so surreal to me,” says English. “Growing up, some of my favorite bands were a part of Tragic Hero, and I’m super excited to be a part of the family. The record that we’ve been pouring ourselves into for months is really going to be unlike anything we’ve done before. We’re branching out and doing things that we’ve never done, and the outcome is really sounding incredible and we’re super excited for everyone to hear it.”

About Pierce the Veil:
San Diego’s own Pierce the Veil – Vic Fuentes (vocals/guitar), Mike Fuentes (drums), Tony Perry (guitar), and Jaime Preciado (bass) – has emerged as one of the fastest-rising young bands on the post-hardcore scene, manifested by the rocket-ride success of the band’s 2012 release, Collide With The Sky. Debuting at #12 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, Collide With The Sky has sold nearly a quarter-million copies in the U.S. alone, and the music video for the track “King for a Day” (featuring Sleeping with Sirens’ Quinn), has racked-up an astounding 32-million YouTube views. In 2012, PTV performed on the Main Stage for the entire Vans Warped Tour, and then went on to sweep the Alternative Press Readers Poll taking awards for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Live Band of the Year, Cover Art of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Best Band Merch, Best Drummer and Best Bassist of the year. This year, marking the inauguration of AP’s Music Awards, PTV has received seven nominations including Artist of the Year and Best Live Band. In 2013, the band’s music video “King For A Day” was awarded “Best Video of the Year” at the Kerrang! Awards, and earlier this year, the band’s critically-acclaimed documentary “This is a Wasteland,” picked up a Revolver Golden God statue for Best Film & Video. PTV has been sequestered in a New York-area studio since June working again with producer Dan Korneff (CWTS) on their fourth album which will be released in early 2015.

About Sleeping with Sirens:
Sleeping With Sirens released their latest album, Feel, in 2013 which garnered a #3 debut on Billboard’s Top 200 chart. Aside from playing to the biggest crowds each night on the main stage at Warped Tour for the past two years, Sleeping With Sirens has sold out numerous headlining tours worldwide. The group brought in Machine Gun Kelly to perform their first single off of Feel, “Alone”, during their main stage run on Warped in 2013 and in London as a special surprise for fans. Sleeping With Sirens has been featured on numerous print magazine covers worldwide, including Kerrang, Rock Sound, Alternative Press, and Blunt. The band was named Alternative Press’ Artist of the Year in 2013 and is nominated in 4 categories for the Alternative Press Music Awards this year, including “Artist of the Year” and “Album of the Year” and will also be performing. Having just announced a week of surprise performances at this year’s Warped Tour to be followed by Reading & Leeds festivals in the UK, this only marks the beginning of what will be Sleeping With Sirens’ biggest release yet.

About Beartooth:
Beartooth is a Columbus, OH hardcore band fronted by 21 year-old Caleb Shomo, with guitarists Taylor Lumley and Kamron Bradbury, bassist Oshie Bichar, and drummer Brandon Mullins. Off the strength of their debut EP Sick they built a strong and dedicated following; their songs have garnered two million plays on YouTube and primed them for the release of their first full-length album Disgusting, out now on Red Bull Records. Critical praise for Disgusting has been effusive: Alternative Press featured Caleb on the cover of their July Warped Tour issue, Kerrang called them “the world’s best new band” and Rolling Stone named Beartooth a “New Artist You Need To Know” for the month of June. The five-piece has toured consistently both stateside and in the UK and Europe, rising from local basement shows to national tours with the likes of Memphis May Fire, August Burns Red and Of Mice & Men, and they are currently out on the Vans Warped Tour.

About This Wild Life:
This Wild Life is Kevin Jordan and Anthony Del Grosso from Long Beach, California. The two met while working at a musical instrument store and quickly bonded over their love for hardcore. Soon enough they began playing shows as pop-punk band This Wild Life. After countless shows, local success, and strong online reaction with YouTube views in the millions, they found new inspiration from Dashboard Confessional and they reinvented themselves as an acoustic duo. Clouded is their debut full-length and was recorded with Aaron Marsh of Copeland. Clouded saw phenomenal first week success on the Billboard charts, debuting as the #1 Top New Artist, #1 Top Alternative New Artist, #49 Digital Album, and the #17 Independent Album. Clouded has garnered much critical acclaim. According to Alternative Press it is “outrageously well-written songs, played well with much skill…everything about this one is a winner” with a 4.5/5 star review. Absolute Punk calls it “one of the most impressive debut albums this year” giving it an 8.5/10. This Wild Life is the result of the hard work of the Long Beach friends. Their journey has been marked by small triumphs, big struggles and countless floor shows, bringing This Wild Life’s heartfelt, melodic and acoustic punk-rock to a bigger audience they’ve earned.

photo1tourHis first release, The Fever, was an energetic, full band EP with an indie pop rock feel to it, evoking Say Anything, but future tracks are headed in a direction drawing more heavily upon influences like Bright Eyes and The Front Bottoms, losing the full band while gaining some new influences, experiences, and maturity.

Casey will be releasing new music this fall. Catch Casey on tour with My Heart, My Anchor starting August 10th.

Before You Exit release Heart Like California single

2176Orlando, FL – July 21, 2014 – The pop trio, known as Before You Exit, have premiered their new single, “Heart Like California“, on air with Radio Disney.  You can watch the lyric video for the track, here:

The song was written and produced by Before You Exit’s own Connor and Riley McDonough, with all mixing done by Connor. On the release of “Heart Like California,” Riley tells us, “‘Heart Like California’ is a song we’ve been wanting to put out for a long time and it shows a different side to our music. It’s got a fun summer vibe and we can’t wait to hear everyone singing along.” The band recently released a music video for their hit single, “Dangerous”, which you can check out, here: “Dangerous“, co-written by Connor and Riley McDonough and mixed by Serben Ghenea, also premiered on Radio Disney. The band was recently named the winner of the third annual Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star Campaign. They will be performing alongside music’s biggest stars at this year’s iconic two-day iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on September 19th and 20th, as well as performing at the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this November.

Before You Exit spent the past month on tour with Fifth Harmony for select dates of their 5th Times A Charm Tour, after having previously wrapped up their spring headlining run, The Dangerous Tour, with Plug In Stereo as direct support. Before You Exit released their latest EP, I Like That, last February. The EP’s title track, peaked at #4 on Radio Disney Top 30 Countdown.

The Orlando, Florida-based band of brothers have been playing ever since they were little. The group consists of Connor McDonough, 20, (Vocals/Guitar), Riley McDonough, 18, (Vocals), and younger brother Toby McDonough, 16, (Vocals/Guitar) and they’ve already began to make their mark on the world.

With their most recent EP, I Like That, the three brothers have crafted a soaring pop album of uplifting relationship songs that effortlessly blend sharp hooks with bright and buoyant rock. “We were searching for a sound, and wrote with as many people as we could. It helped us grow and write better songs. For this album we wrote 30 to 40 songs and picked our favorites,” Riley McDonough says. The band drew inspiration and wrote songs from sessions with such seasoned vets as Robert Ellis Orall (Taylor Swift), Dan Book and Alexei Misoul (Hot Chelle Rae), Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), and Stephen Barker Liles (Love and Theft). The album standout and first single, “I Like That“, is a tune with tenderly romantic lyrics and big pop-rock beat. Ryan Daly and Anthony Improgo, along with Connor McDonough, produced the album. “They really listened to what we wanted to do and let us try out our ideas, no matter how crazy,” Connor says laughing. “Because of that, we feel really connected to the way the recording turned out,” Riley adds. The group is even more excited for the release of their brand new music coming soon!

With Before You Exit’s release, the I Like That EP, the band has been critically acclaimed by the likes of MTV, J-14, Seventeen, Radio Disney, Teen, Teen Vogue, Popstar!, Just Jared, just to name a few. The band has also toured/played with high profile acts such as
Cody Simpson, Olly Murs, The Wanted, Fifth Harmony, and even the Jonas Brothers.

Conjuring up the optimism in the band’s name-inspired by the sentiment”make a difference before you exit”- the band works daily to make their way to the top but they never fail to stop and appreciate what has helped get them this far.”There’s no way we’d be anywhere without our incredible fans. They are behind us every step of the way and are a huge piece of this band,” states youngest brother, Toby. In light of the many short lived and fly by night artists, this young, singer/songwriting, brother driven band, is one to be around for a while.
