What Doesn’t Kill Us by Throw The Fight (Bullet Tooth Records)
Throw The Fight is an alternative hard rocking band who has been paying their dues all across the nation since 2003. Now signed to Bullet Tooth Records, their debut for the label is entitled What Doesn’t Kill Us, an explosive collection of songs packing an emotional wallop as well as a sonic hyper-punch to the senses. Realizing that lead vocalist James Clark is a recent cancer survivor really places the lyrical content into a new perspective.
There is a sense of urgency to be found on the ten songs contained within, and the results are nothing short of amazing. The tunes are catchy as hell, destined to finally gain Throw The Fight a grand amount of admiration and respect. There is no doubt that Bullet Tooth has an all-out breakthrough champion on their hands.
Round one of the rock and roll journey commences with the dynamic Bloodshot Eyes, a song that instantly grabs the listener by the throat with it’s devastating, “My whole heart is torn to pieces, just because you stopped believing” refrain. Then the single Not So Hollywood is up next, a thrilling song about the wild highs and catastrophic lows of living in the glitz and decadence of Tinseltown. One wishes they would actually play songs this compelling on the radio airwaves!
One Step Away exudes the band’s knack for creating a potent tune that will tug at the heartstrings. Makes Us Stronger is powerful and cathartic, with its impassioned lyrics and stunning instrumental presentation.
When The World Stops Spinning is a triumphant number, whose “My whole life is a dream, faded pictures and memories” imagery and vibrant music lingers within the mind of the listener. Lifesaver then slams through your stereo system with a scorching amount of fervor and energy.
Run Away show just how wondrously effective Throw The Fight is with a power ballad. And then Lights Out For Summer is blasted with a skilled precision, sounding very much like hit single material with its dazzling sing along chorus – definitely an anthem for the Summer of 2012 and beyond.
Up next is an amped cover of the Cutting Crew classic I Just Died In Your Arms, rendered with a mesmerizing perfection by Throw The Fight. And then concluding the album on a super intensive note is You Can’t Swim With Concrete Shoes, showing that Throw The Fight can place the pedal to the metal, while still retaining an infectious sense of melody and strength.
James Clark presents a persuasive vocal performance, conveying the lyrics with a staggering amount of ferocity and conviction. The mighty dual guitar assault is courtesy of Ryan Baustert and Jonathan Sutton. And then driving it all home with a vengeance is Jeff Baustert on drums and Kyle Glidden on bass.
Throw The Fight has opened for the likes of Avenged Sevenfold and Buckcherry in the past – do not even be surprised to find the Minneapolis based musicians headlining their own shows in no time at all. In the meantime, check into What Doesn’t Kill Us by Throw The Fight and be ready to be thoroughly devastated by some of the most honest and hard hitting rock and roll you will ever hear! Produced with style and flair by John Feldmann (Story of the Year, The Used, Atreyu).
