Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in UnKured, and how long the band m has been in existence?
Hey, my name is Ben Stanton. I’m the bassist for UnKured. UnKured has been around for almost 4 years.
Where is your band based out of and what is your local music scene like there?
We’re from Cincinnati, Ohio and our scene is pretty good right now. It was pretty bad when we first started out. We have a lot of great bands Valdrin, Gomorrah, Faithextractor, Verment just to name a fraction of the great acts we have here.
What could one expect from a live UnKured show?
A lot of head banging from us. As for crowds, we get mixed reactions. Sometimes people just watch us and take everything we do in and other times we have people throwing beer, coach cushions, trash cans, and even a blow up sex doll haha! (Thanks Taxidermy Palace! )
How did your tour in May go and what were some of the highlights?
It went well. We had a lot of fun and got to hangout with people we can’t normally see. met some friends from Facebook in real life that was cool. The beer and sex doll throwing story happened on that tour haha. It went good a great time.
Any strange or scary happening while on the road or at a show?
We had a very intoxicated African American woman also at the same show as referenced above. She was drunk and we could not have her thrown out for reasons that we can’t disclose lol. Anyways she was going around to people saying sentences to people. And I say sentences because it was not a conversation. She went up to this couple and for 3 minutes said none stop. “mother birth ya, mother raise ya, mother fuck ya” now 3 minutes may not seem long but count minutes and you’ll understand just how uncomfortable it was to watch… not even have her talk to me lol. She also kept saying ``I woke up like dis” same deal just random people as if she was spreading some sort of wisdom about. So yeah that was a little strange I guess.
If UnKured could open up for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
Death. Death is our favorite band. Number one band for each member of our band. Something about it just resonates with us so it just makes sense.
Which members of UnKured is in Killer Refrigerator and how does the band compare to UnKured? Have the two bands ever played a show together?
That would be Cody haha. Killer Refrigerator is Cody’s warning to the world that appliances are going to kill all of humanity. So Killer Fridge is more of a political message where as Unkured is more sci-fi, spiritual, ills of humanity related. You can learn more about Killer Fridge through a documentary they just did on the band.
What’s up next for UnKured?
We’re planning some mini tours right now. Hopefully we can attract some more attention and get on with some bigger bands. We don’t have a record deal yet, but its not out of the question for us right now. It’s just a matter of finding someone we want to go with more than anything.
Any messages for metal fans reading this who should go and check your band out?
For fans I hope you like it. I would say what everyone should do is go support the best new bands. I love old school stuff but those guys are getting old and we need new bands to take their place. So listen and support the best new bands you can find and you’ll have the best new bands.
Be sure to check out UnKured’s current manifesto As Reality Melts, and watch for the unveiling of the mighty Mutated Earth!
