The Wright Stuff Goes to Warped Tour 2016
VAN WARPED TOUR 2016 Review, Qualcomm Stadium. San Diego, CA., Friday August 5, 2016

This is a great way to see what bands you know already or like and to start looking for other bands to get into. The event started with the opening of the gates grounds at 10:30AM. By 11:00AM the sun was blaring down and the heat was on and so was the music. The nice thing by early evening around 7:00PM a light breeze cooled everything down. Some of the non-profits gaining recognition from the attendees were Keep A Breast, Musicares, Living The Dream Foundation plus there were others to choose from to support.
The Summer Set
Here are some of the acts that got my special attention to review: The Summer Set were one of the earliest bands to catch me in their web of sound waves. They played songs from their newest released CD called Stories For Monday. The great single from the new album Missin’ You got the crowd jumping along right off the start so the audience knew they were in for a great time.
The Summer Set of songs were: Missin’ You, Boomerang, Change Your Mind, The Night Is Young, All My Friends, Figure Me Out and Lightning In A Bottle. Definitely this was a lively set. The positive energy could be felt even if you were standing away from the audience to the side or way in the back.

Four Year Strong
Four Year Strong is a hardcore rock band but no screaming parts. Ruff tough but nicest of men might be scary in a dark alley but they will have your back if they are needed. That’s what these man bring to the front.
Honesty shows in the bands lyrics of just how things really are and then how to handle them. So even though these guys all have beards, they are what is known as gentle giants or plainly bears. I bet kicking back and having a beer with these gents would be a cool thing whether for fun or just chillin’ telling stories.
Some of the great tunes they rocked were: Who Cares. Wasting Time, Maniac, Go Down In History One Step At A Time and What The Hell Is A Gigawatt?. The band shows it’s humor in their titles maybe a slight dark humor but that’s ok with this band it’s how they swag it that makes it all work for them. They got my respect for sure.

Yellowcard are getting ready to retire and not tour. You wouldn’t know it from the enthusiasm that Yellowcard brings forward. Honestly speaking though Yellowcard will have one last album coming out called simply Yellowcard and will be on its last tour run. They will be playing a show on October 18th in Ventura California. During two times in this last run of shows, with the last show being in New York in November, they will also do Ocean Avenue in its entirety as well.
Here are the songs they performed With You Around, Lights And Sounds, Five Becomes Four, Way Away, Only One and Ocean Avenue. Not only will this band be missed from the Vans Warped Tour playing many times but will be a great loss when they retire in November of this year. Thanks for the great music and all of the fun.

Reel Big Fish
Reel Big Fish not only did they do a partial cover of My Own Worst Enemy from Lit during the bands set but also did The Same Song , yes you heard correctly that’s the real title of the song, but they played the same cords about 7 different ways.
The bands humor is up front and silly. Who would ever guess that Reel Big Fish have been playing ska music for the past 25 years. They have more than proven that they are the best in this style of music and have performed all over the world and soon will be playing ska on a cruise ship.
One of my favorite songs they did was Beer it’s short and to the point. So don’t blink or you’ll miss it. Some of the other songs they performed were Sell Out, Self Esteem, Everyone Else Is An Ass Hole, Another F. U. Song and of course Take On Me. Real Big Fish give the party feel and make everyone feel good with what they give. Real Big Fish are a definite class act.

The Maine played the main stage and from the beginning moment they hit the stage they already had the audience in their hands. American Candy is the latest release from the Arizona band. They play pop alternative and it’s delivered in a mass way with high comfortness to being yourself and that looks don’t matter. The Maine are like finding a long lost friend that you want to spend quality time with to get to know again and again.
They performed some great memorable tunes as: English Girls, Like we Did, Diet Soda Society, Am I Pretty, Everything I Ask For, Girls Do What they Want and did a few more too. Seemed like had really wanted to make an impression and they really did.

Less Than Jake
Less Than Jake make a nice even blend of Alternative, punk and some ska to make a frenzy blend for circle pit eruptions getting the crowd to dance around off of each other and to jumping up and down all at the same time. This combustion of energy is stunning.
They did this with playing the songs of: All Of My Friends Are Meat Heads, Look What Happened, Last One Out Of Liberty City, Overrated, The Ghost Of Me And You, Good Enough, and The Science Of Selling Yourself Short. The band got the evening crowd to move around and that was more than enough to keep everyone smiling while the sun was starting to go down.
These bands were a treat to go see and feel their great energy. The positive vibe that each of these bands brings to the Vans Warped Tour is something to behold. Summer is getting close to an end for The Vans Warped Tour but the feeling should last in you for a while for those of us who were lucky to be at one of the Vans Warped Tour festival events.
