Rocking In The Free World with The Sherlocks

Meet The Sherlocks, a Sheffield-based collective ready to rock the free world and beyond with their own vibrant brand of indie alternative rage.  Consisting of two sets of brothers, The Sherlocks have been steadily building a solid live following and were the first unsigned band since Arctic Monkeys to sell out their local venue the Sheffield Leadmill. They’ve opened for the likes of the legendary James and are about ready to unveil Live For The Moment – their full length debut via BMG Records!  We caught up with bassist Andy Davidson to find out more about this dynamic band on the rise from the UK ready to bust out into the big leagues in an epic way!  Read on…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in The Sherlocks, and how long the band has been together.
Hi I’m Andy, I am the bassist in The Sherlocks and we have been together for around 7 years.

Where is the band based out of and what is the music scene like there?
We are based in Sheffield, and as we all know Sheffield has an unbelievable music scene. There is some good up and coming bands from our area and there’s always great venues to play from small to big stages.

Is there any overall story or concept behind the title Live For The Moment?
Live For The Moment was the first song we released and this was where it all started. People were singing it at our gigs and our fan base started growing. The song also relates to everyone in some shape or form with the chorus.

Select any other song from Live For The Moment and what inspired the lyrics.
(Track 6) Nobody knows.  The lyrics were inspired by the position we were in at a particular time and coming to terms with being surrounded by more people who hype stuff up and say everything is great, which isn’t how we run our ship.

What could one expect from a live The Sherlocks show?
I’d say limbs flying everywhere and bodies moving. People don’t just come to our shows, people get stuck in and come to release whatever it is that does their head in. It’s an opportunity for people to forget their 9 – 5 job and have a good time!

Have The Sherlocks ever played in the States or plan to do so in future days?
Yes we played the great ‘SXSW Festival‘ in Texas! It was a quality experience and we 100% plan on coming back and playing to the American fans…a lot sooner than you think.  Don’t worry we’re itching to get started.

What was it like opening for James and did you get to meet or hang out with them at all?
It’s always great, we’ve supported them quite a few times and we’re also big fans of theirs. Yes we’ve met them a few times and they’re lovely down to earth people.

If The Sherlocks could open up for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
It would have to be The Clash back in the day, their fans know how to go for it and we’re huge fans of theirs.

The Queen of England invites The Sherlocks to play one song for her at a Royal Command Performance. What song would you play for Her Majesty and guest and why?
It would probably have to be Turn the clock which is one of the more tender songs on the album, her majesty deserves a few violins and a love song.

What’s up next for The Sherlocks?
We’re going to smash this album campaign wherever it takes us. Got Reading and Leeds coming up which we can’t wait for. Also we’re going on a massive U.K. tour in September which sees us playing the biggest venues we’ve ever played. After that we’re going to keep writing songs and prepping for the next album!

Any final words of wisdom?
Keep on rocking in the free world kiddos!
