The Paris-based five-piece Early Seasons have been a unit since March 2011. The band has perfected a seamless blend of hardcore and pop-punk, seasoned with a dash of heavy metal. Their music is a perfectly executed mix of melodic and metallic and their presence will be felt in 2014.
“We are more than proud to be a part of the Artery Recordings family,” the band said about the signing. “As a French band, it’s a true honor to join this huge label and we will do everything to make things happen. We know it’s a great and rare opportunity to get signed by a U.S. huge label even moreso as a French band, so we are definitely more than motivated and exited to get this rolling!“
Redemption was the debut full length album Early Seasons released through Artery in 2o14. Here is an interview I did with vocalist Marty Degenne...
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Early Seasons, and how long the band has been together.
Hello, I’m Marty, I sing in Early Seasons and the band is approximatively 3 years old.
Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are from Paris, and the local scene here is more like hardcore and metal, and we recommend you band as The Great Divide, and our best buddies in Rise of the North Star!
How did you wind up signing with Artery Recordings?
Well, we worked so hard for this first record and it’s just a huge honor to get signed by Artery Recordings and to be in a roadster with bands like Slaves, Attila, Chelsea Grin, Alesana and many huge more! We coulnd’t be more proud.
Is there any story or concept behind the title Redemption?
Yes, kind of, cause our first ep was based on the ” End of the World” and we wanted to create like a “new beginning” for the record with a song full of hope and redemption. It’s hard to explain. I hope I’m clear enough ahah.
Select two songs from Redemption and what inspired the lyrics.
My opinion, it would be Facedown, it talks about politics and how dictator’s ruins lives, and getting mad with money, I’m totally angry with it and I wanted to try to say something about that cause it seems like nothin’ can stop them.
And second choice would be My Mind because it talks about accepting our mistakes and not being slaves but masters of our lives. Always going foward means a lot to me.
Who did the artwork for Redemption and how much input did you have on it?
It’s a friend who did the photo shoot of the model for the cover. I directed personally the cover. I really wanted to have a ” cursed girl” turning into a beautiful woman like, kinda Redemption – like doing bad things and become a better person at the end.
What could one expect from a live Early Seasons show?
A lot of energy and jumping ahah. We really give everything we got for every show cuz we think that there will always be news faces that will discover us at the shows. I remember once we played in Spain at the beginning of the band there were like 10 people, but we played like we were on the mainstage of the Download Festival ahah. We end up the show totally tired and without shirts ahah was really fun.
What was the experience like touring in Russia and how did that come about?
This is unforgettable. Just amazing we obviously had never went there, and we traveled all the countries and in Europe in a simple van, hundreds of hours of road in the blizzard and mountain that was just amazing. I have no words to describe it, and the shows was just incredible. We were headlining at every show and sometimes 200 people showed up and would go totally crazy with stage diving and circle pit, the show with the less persons was about 70 people it was always like 100- 150 and we end up the tour with a sold-out insane show!! It was an amazing adventure.
Has Early Seasons ever played here in the States or plan to do so in future days?
We can’t wait to hit America! Artery will take care of us for that. We totally trust them, they trust in us, and we just can’t wait to prove them right 🙂
Any strange or scary happenings on the road or at a Early Seasons show?
Man ahah so many, Russia was insane, like a fan gave me his personal knife at the end of a show! We stopped by a shop on the road and there were guys with guns but they weren’t cops ahah mother Russia! We also have a lot of stories, but it has to be told around a fire and popcorn ahah
If Early Seasons could open up for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
For the story I have to say that we did a cover of Linkin Park “Papercut” and the bassist “Phoenix” liked it and shared it on his twitter saying to check us out and that it was amazing! Well, it’s my favorite band since I’m 9 years old so how can I say that this was one of the most beautiful day of my life – and if I could choose the band we open for it would be Linkin Park! One day it ll happen ahah. And more at our step it would most likely be I See Stars, Attila, Memphis May Fire.
What’s up next for Early Seasons?
So much good news incoming for the Redemption promo, like tours, festivals and maybe a new video clip! 🙂
Any final words of wisdom?
Yes; vive le vin, le rock, et merci a tous nos fans! it means (long live to wine, rock and thanks to all of our fans!)
