Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Broken Testimony, and how long the band has been together.
My name is Justin King, I’m the bass player in Broken Testimony. The band started in 2016 with the lead singer (Judge Page) and drummer (Bryce Chism) then grew from there with a lead guitarist (Nic Delvoux). I came along in 2017.
Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like there?
Broken Testimony is based out of Easley, SC. A small but growing town. The scene is small here, most of the time we travel to some local cities to play shows.
How did you wind up signing with Thermal Entertainment?
We had a local venue owner push our name to Thermal and wound up making connections and building a relationship from there on. We opened shows for a few of their other bands and we made the decision to join in.
Is there any overall story or concept behind the album title Holding On To Nothing?
The overall concept of the album is about overcoming challenges and reaching the light on the other side.
Select two songs from Holding On To Nothing and what inspired the lyrics.
Control: The corrupt side of the world. Politics, institutions , Etc.
Vitality: The overcoming of our inner demons and becoming truly alive.
Who produced Holding On To Nothing and what was it like working with them?
The producer is Jacob Porter from the band State of Illusion. He is such a great producer, musician, and friend. The workflow in the studio was easy and fun.
What could one expect from a live Broken Testimony show?
A fun and high energy experience!
What was the experience like opening for Trapt and did you get to hang out with them at all?
It was an amazing, nerve racking experience. We all had high energy and were stoked to get such an amazing opportunity to open for Trapt. Sadly, Trapt was busy prepping for their set in the greenroom or tour bus.
If Broken Testimony could open for a band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
It would have to be Breaking Benjamin. The lyrics are amazing and musicianship is insanely good.
Has Broken Testimony ever played in the Los Angeles/OC area or plan to do so in future days?
We haven’t been to LA …yet. We will eventually make our way there!
If the music of Broken Testimony was a donut, what kind would it be and why?
I would have to say a dark chocolate covered donut with sprinkles. The dark yet sweet at the same time and we all have colorful personalities and we some how make it taste great!
Whatโs up next for Broken Testimony?
Working the new album and also working on new material and building friendships and touring.
Any final words of wisdom?
When you have nothing but dreams, Keep holding on to your nothing.
