Highwire Daze Online recently caught up with lead vocalist Dave Wanless to find out more about their return, the making of their brand new single, looking back on the two Sven Gali albums, and what the future has in store in regards to new music and live appearances.  Read on…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Sven Gali, and how long the band has been together.
Hello, This is David.. singer of Sven Gali.. we have been together since 1987.

Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like?
We are based out of Niagara and Hamilton. The local seen seems to come in waves but a good number of successful bands have come from theses areas.

Is there any overall story or concept behind your new single Kill The Lies?
Basically it’s about breaking thru struggles, setback, finding the strength to power thru.

Who produced the new Sven Gali song and what was it like working with them?
David Bendieth, he has done Bring The Horizon, Paramore, Breaking BenjaminDavid did our first release in 92, it was a no stress.. kinda hangin’ out writing what we liked, having a good time.

Is there a Sven Gali full length or EP in the works?
We are looking forward to going back into the studio this fall.. we are not sure what we will be doing just yet.. but we will be releasing more music.

It’s been 25 years since the Self-Titled debut recording. Does it feel like 25 years ago, and looking back, what do you think of that record?
Time really does fly.. it was a great time in our lives, we traveled and rocked.. I listen to it now and hear the youth and energy we had..

Your next record was Inwire. Looking back, what are your overall impressions of Inwire now?
Inwire was us experimenting, I like it for what it is.. and it was just a step in our growth as writers players. Our new song Kill The Lies is kinda both albums smashed together.

What was it like touring with legends such as Foreigner, Def Leppard and April Wine and did you get to hang out with them at all?
Doing the big shows like the Def Leppard tour was what every kid thinks about when you put a guitar on, we got chat and kick a soccer ball around backstage. Everyone is on a schedule and its tough to hang. But after our show we sat side stage and it was like I was in school watching, absorbing all going on.

What could one expect from a live Sven Gali show in 2018..
You can expect us giving it everything we have every night .. I am fortunate to be surrounded by great players and crew.

Between the initial Sven Gali breakup and now, have you been active with any other bands or projects?
Shawn plays bass in the Forgotten Rebels and I had some fun with friends from back in the day in a band called The Betty Ford Band.

What’s up next for Sven Gali? Any U.S. dates?
Stay tuned as it’s all in the works..looking forward to getting all over to play again.

Any final words of wisdom?
Still tryin to figure it all out myself!!
