Into The Punk Rocking World of Mason Zero
Mason Zero is a punk rocking power trio from Southern California ready to burst out into the worldwide music scene in an epic way! The band has played at iconic clubs such as The Whisky, House Of Blues, and Chain Reaction – and recently opened for the legendary Orange County hardcore band Ignite at Solaris Beer & Blending in Murrieta. By Ourselves is the name of Mason Zero’s just released EP, featuring five absolutely empowering anthems that will send music fans into the stratosphere. Highwire Daze recently interviewed Mason Zero to find out more about this dynamic new band on the rise. Read on…
Introduce yourself and the rest of your bandmates in Mason Zero, and how long the band has been together.
My name is Mason Rodriguez but my stage name is Mason Zero. I’m lead vocals and guitar player. We got Kenny Robertson on drums and Fionna Tucker on bass. We’ve been together since 2022.
Where is the band based out of and what is the local music scene like there?
The band is based out of Corona, CA. The music scene here had a lot of punk rock bands. Very supportive community and welcoming to any genre in the scene.
Is there any overall story or concept behind the By Ourselves EP title and song?
The By Ourselves EP is about heartbreak. The song itself is about not giving up, moving on and to not let anyone say we can’t accomplish our goals.
Select two other songs from the new EP and what inspired the lyrics?
“Breathing” and “Because Of You.” These two songs were inspired by an actual past love. I was left heartbroken but that doesn’t stop me from living my life.
Who produced By Ourselves and what was it like working with them?
I am actually the one who produced the E.P. Working by myself is calming. I never have to feel rushed about recording. I can take my time and come back to anything that I missed.
What could one expect from a live Mason Zero show?
Expect a lot of high energy and fun from the three of us. We interact with our audience and want to get everyone involved at our shows. Oh, and we like to get you all to scream a lot.
What was the experience like opening for the legendary Orange County hardcore band Ignite?
Opening for Ignite was absolutely amazing. They are very professional and very entertaining to watch. Every song they play is catchy and they put 100% the entire show. Super nice people as well.
If Mason Zero could open for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
Definitely Green Day. It’s my all time favorite band growing up. It would be an absolute dream for that to happen. A lot of my style and stage presence I learned from watching them.
What has it been like playing iconic local venues such as The Whisky, House Of Blues, and Chain Reaction?
I call those venues “the big 3.” A lot of our favorite bands have stepped on those stages. Every time we play those venues, I think of all the history that has been made there. I always get nervous but excited when we perform at any of the 3.
Are you involved with any other bands or projects outside of Mason Zero?
I am doing guest vocals on a song with my good friend Dillon Divoid for his upcoming album he’s been working on. Our drummer Kenny has also been releasing his own music under the name Krimson Wolf and I’ve been recording guitar and bass for him. Definitely some cool stuff to check out in the future.
What’s up next for Mason Zero?
Next for us would be to keep on playing, keep our live performances tight, and take on any big opportunities the come our way. Also, a music video!
Any final words of wisdom?
It’s okay to work on yourself and focus on the things you love. Keep moving forward. We got 1 life. Let’s make it count!
