Closer To Found: Touring The Lost Highways of The States

Closer To Found is a groove-driven metalcore outfit from Canada about the make their way to the USA for The Listen Close And You Hear The Ocean Tour.  Their current album is entitled Always Just as Lost, a collection of exhilarating anthems destined to garner the band a good deal of attention. Possessing a good deal of melody and heart as well as a vibrant intensity within their songs, Closer To Found is sure to break on through into the States in an epic way.  We caught up with dual vocalists Lawrence Leylekian and Zackari Bourgeois of Closer To Found just prior to their hitting the lost highways of America to find out more about this exciting new band on the rise.  Read on…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Closer To Found, and how long the band has been together.
Lawrence: Hey, I’m Lawrence and I’m here with Zack, and we’re the vocalists for Closer To Found, which has been around since early 2014.

Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like there? Any local bands you could recommend?
Lawrence: We’re based out of Montreal, QC where the local scene can be described as small, yet thriving with numerous local bands who can support any number of shows.
Zack: Local bands that I would recommend are Sever The Voices and Alongside who opened for us at our release show in Montreal last November.

Is there any overall story or concept behind the title Always Just As Lost?
Zack: The concept behind the album title is that in the process of finding yourself, you often end up with more questions than answers, yet there is a solace in the fact that the search for answers is one of the great adventures of life.
Lawrence: In life there will be many occasions to overcome struggle and the album as a whole looks at that as a welcomed challenge.

Select any two songs from Always Just As Lost and what inspired the lyrics.
Lawrence: Listen Close And You Hear The Ocean is inspired by times where substance abuse has been prevalent in our lives and how one can decide to fight back against this overwhelming feeling of loneliness.
Zack: Pave Again is inspired by how members of our generation are unheard by those in power, which negatively influences many to feel unable to change the world around them. The goal of the song is to unite people, to create a positive impact on the world.

What are you looking forward to the most about your upcoming Listen Close And You Hear The Ocean Tour here in the States?
Lawrence: Playing in different cities and meeting our fans along the way is definitely one of the aspects we are looking forward to the most.
Zack: We are equally eager to play for a new audience and potentially gain new fans.

Any strange or scary stories from the road or at a show?
Zack: At one of our hometown shows, a drunken fan got into a physical confrontation with the vocalist of one of the opening bands. To disarm the situation, we took the fan aside and gave him a glass of water in hopes of calming him down.

If Closer To Found could open for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
Lawrence: From the presently active bands, I would have to say Issues, seeing as they are a musical influence of ours.
Zack: I’ll go with a past band and say Attack Attack because we’ve got some fond memories while listening to their albums.

If your music was a donut, what kind would it be and why?
Lawrence: Our music would be a half sprinkled chocolate glazed donut because we keep things simple, but add our flare to it, and of course the half sprinkled portrays the duality of dual vocalists.

What would you like someone to remember after hearing the music of Closer To Found for the first time?
Zack: Hopefully they remember the message the song conveys and how it made them feel in that moment.

Any final words of wisdom?
Lawrence: Don’t be content staying where you are in life, if you want to succeed, you need to sacrifice and put yourself out there as much as possible.
