Legacy: With Metal In Mind

From Toledo, Ohio, Legacy is an exciting new band that has been gaining a good deal of attention over the last few months.  The collective recently unleashed a rock-solid effort entitled With Peace In Mind on InVogue Records.  Here is an interview Highwire Daze conducted with the Legacy…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Legacy, and how long the band has been together.
Gabe Lopez- vocals, Lupe Lopez- guitar/vocals

Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based out of Toledo Ohio. Toledo’s music scene used to be very strong a couple years back, unfortunately it’s not how it used to be. We are unfamiliar with the newer local bands, so no bands come to mind.

How did you wind up signing with InVogue Records?
We felt like InVogue would give us the most attention and give us the extra push that we need. That was our biggest attraction and things just kinda fell into place. Almost like it was meant to be.

Is there any story or concept behind the CD title With Peace In Mind?
The songs on the album seem angry. That may be so, but they have a great deal of “overcoming obstacles” in the lyrics as well. Maybe we have to push through all this bad to find the good.

What was it like working with Landon Tewers and what did he contribute to the overall recording process?
Working with Landon was a good time. He actually had a lot to do with how the album turned out. If we were ever stuck on anything he was always there to come up with something to keep things interesting. He’s a great musician and a great producer.

Select any two songs from With Peace In Mind and what inspired the lyrics.
Intentions – we grew up with people that had major rolls in our lives, and events in our lives that just let us down. In Many different ways. But in the end it made us better people. The people we are today.

Fears – This song is just about the battles you face within yourself. All the negative thoughts and emotions that come into play when your faced with any sort of struggle.

Who did the cover art for With Peace In Mind and how much input did you have on it?
Our old bassist did our cover art. He would show us what he was up to while he was creating it, but we didn’t really put very much input on it other then “that’s sick dude!”. I think it came out pretty good if I do say so myself.

What could one expect from a live Legacy show?
No fancy lights. Just straight forward, in your face music. Hopefully it’s a good time.

To you, what has been the very best and worst parts of touring so far?
The very best part of touring is going to a place that you have never been and seeing kids singing your songs. That still blows my mind. Worst part of touring is I always manage to get sick. Some way or another I’m sick. We need to be healthier when we are on the road.

Any unusual or scary stories from the road you could share?
We haven’t been on a tour were our van HASN’T broken down on us yet. If we didn’t have bad luck, we would have no luck at all. But we always enjoy ourselves and manage to work things out.

If your music was compared to a donut, what kind would it be and why?
We would be a bagel cause we are harder than a donut.

If you weren’t in a band right now, what do you think you’d be doing with your time?
Making money. But no, seriously probably working a dead-end job and hating it.

Any final words of wisdom?
If you’re not first you’re last.
Ain’t no mountain high enough.
Turn the other cheek.
Once you go black you never go back.
Life is like a box of chocolates.
I don’t play like homie, and homie don’t play like that.
never give up, never surrender.
