The Cathartic Hardcore Reveries of Voids
The Cathartic Hardcore Reveries of Voids
Voids is an explosive melodic hardcore collective from the state of Maryland whose sonic entreaties will devastate the senses of all who give a listen. With vibrantly cathartic lyrics and superbly intensive melodies, Voids is sure to inspire the mind while launching you headfirst into the nearest slam pit of mass destruction. No Character: No Crown has just been unveiled, and it’s an album seething a vibrant amount of passion and conviction.
Highwire Daze Online recently caught up with vocalist Chad Yockel to find out a whole lot more about this compelling new band on the rise. Read on…
Introduce yourself; tell me what you do in Voids, and how long the band has been together.
My name is Chad, I’m the vocalist of Voids. The band as a whole has been around for five years but Voids has been around for two years.
Where is the band based out of and what is the music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band is based out of Hagerstown, Maryland. The music scene here isn’t really big at all, we have to at least 30 miles to the nearest venue. As far as locals go In Dying Arms has always been killing it.
Is there any overall story or concept behind the title No Character: No Crown?
The concept behind No Character: No Crown was to write about just everyday struggles that I’ve went through in the past, stuff that I’ve kept in for years. But everything I’ve went through has made me a stronger person and that’s what I wanted people to get out of it.
Select any two songs from No Character: No Crown and what inspired the lyrics.
“Invidia” was written about a friend who always had constant road bumps in his life. On top of that others used to tease him about things he was going though or simply telling him to just get over it. With that he became envious of those around who just brush it of with no hesitation.
“Idol” was written when one of my close friends left my life out of nowhere. Someone I’ve known for years gone and he was someone that I always looked up to, leaned on, we were inseparable. So these are my pent up thoughts regarding it.
Who produced No Character: No Crown and what was it like working with them?
Brette Ciamarra produced the record. The recording process was pretty relaxed from what I was used to in the past. Even though it was pretty fast paced I could still take my time and make any changes I needed to.
What could one expect from a live Voids show?
At a Voids show you can always expect a great performance and expect to have a much fun as possible.
What have been some of the most memorable shows you have played opening up for a band?
Probably one of the most memorable shows to me was when we played I the Breather’s farewell tour in Baltimore. For me as a Baltimore native it was great to see a lot of familiar faces coming not only to support ITB but to support the whole Maryland music scene.
If Voids could open up for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
If we could open up for any band it would probably have to be either Architects or Fit For A King, not only because of the music they create but also because they’re genuinely some of the nicest individuals.
What kind touring have you done so far, and do you have any strange or unusual stories from the road or at the show?
As far as tours go, we’ve done a bunch of small ones normally either week runs or weekend runs but as far as one of the strangest shows, it would probably have to be when we played in Lynchburg, Virginia. We played at a small gym, but across the walls looked to be satanic drawings, there was skulls and bones on the ground, and to top it off a coffin in the very back.
If the music of Voids was a donut, what kind would it be and why?
If our music was a donut I’d have to say it would be a Boston cream filled donut with sprinkles just because that all of us have different influences when it comes to writing. Just as the donut has different elements, our influences are what create the product you listen to today.
Any final words of wisdom?
Only advice I have for everyone that if you have a dream that you want to make a reality, go for it. Despite the setbacks and struggles, you can do anything you set your mind to, so don’t let anyone get in your way.
