Myles Kennedy at The Troubadour
Myles Kennedy at The Troubadour, May 6, 2018
When I see the name Myles Kennedy, the first thought that pops into my head would be Alter Bridge, Slash, Mayfield Four. Sunday, May 6, 2018, at The Troubadour in West Hollywood California, was a bit different as the sold-out crowd rocked to pure raw emotion during Myles Kennedy’s acoustic show in support of the latest release Myles Kennedy Year of the Tiger via Napalm Records.
The fans were feeling a bit anxious looking at the stage, only seeing a microphone stand, music stand, a stool, small table with bottled water, and pedal board waiting for the show to begin. Precisely 8:00 PM lights dim, and Kennedy enters the stage to the fans cheers.
Kicking off the night with Devil on the Wall off the latest release Myles Kennedy Year of the Tiger, I like all the other fans were in awe, his voice is impressive. Before certain songs Kennedy would explain to the fans how the song came about, following with Standing in the Sun from Slash feat, Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators (cover), followed by Mars Hotel, Mayfield Four (cover).
Within the first three songs, it gave the fans a glimpse of what was to come musically, this being the first time I have seen Myles Kennedy perform an acoustic show, I was in for a pleasant surprise, his laughter, his jokes poking fun at himself to being very attentive to his fans, even saying Happy Birthday to a fan that goes to all his shows. At one point asking the fans how they are doing? Then in return, a fan yells back How are you doing tonight? A big smile showed up on Kennedy’s face saying he is “fucking amazing,” this was a dream for him to play a show like this at The Troubadour, that it had been 20 years to the day since he played there, going on stating he and others didn’t think a show like this would work. It has worked in grand fashion, every show on this tour is sold out.
Myles Kennedy solo album Year of the Tiger is a tribute to Kennedy’s father that had passed away, raw, emotional feelings dealing with things that should have been said and done, that wasn’t. The set included five songs from the album, Haunted by Design, Blind Faith, Songbird, and the song that brought me to tears; Love Can Only Heal.
As I stated earlier in this review, this was the first time seeing his acoustic show; it went beyond anything I could imagine, the intimate setting was perfect for the fans of all ages.
