Give Me A Reason: Pop Punk from Switzerland

Meet Give Me A Reason, an up and coming pop punk collective from Switzerland ready to take on the world with their dynamic anthems.  Their latest EP Vice Versa was recently issued, featuring memorable songs such as Sad, Color, and Funny.  Fans of bands such as State Champs and All Time Low just may discover a new favorite when encountering what Give Me A Reason has to offer.  Highwire Daze recently interviewed Give Me A Reason to find out more about this charismatic Swiss collective.  Read on…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Give Me A Reason, and how long the band has been together.
Hey everyone, we are Give Me A Reason, we are Mattia (Singer), Giuly (lead guitar), Max (rhythm guitar) and Darren (drummer). Give Me A Reason formed originally in 2016, but we work in this formation (officially) since the beginning of 2020.

Where is the band based out of and what is the local music scene like there?
We are based in Zürich, Switzerland. The scene here is unfortunately very small, but luckily very supportive! We love our local community!

Is there any overall story or concept behind the Vice Versa title?
We went to the other side of the world to record this EP, and this experience flipped our life upside down. But we thought “Vice Versa” sounds more intellectual than “Upside Down” haha.

Select two songs from Vice Versa and what inspired the lyrics.
Sad” was inspired by all of us being stuck in a job that we didn’t like, and us being surrounded by a lot of people that were judging us and the way we are living our life to achieve that goal.

Blur” was inspired by our social media and digital living generation. We lost track about what is really important in life, to cherish the moment and make non-digital connections… to see life in all it’s colors.

Who produced Vice Versa and what was it like working with them?
The whole EP was co-written, recorded, mixed and mastered with Blake Roses at Pastel Recording Company. It was an absolute pleasure to work with him and the vibe couldn’t have been better.

What has it been like to release a new EP right in the middle of a pandemic? Have you had any shows or tours cancelled because of it?
To be honest, it was weird. It was hard to find the perfect time to do it, since we couldn’t schedule it to a show or tour to properly promote our music. We had a show in Sweden and a UK tour planed and we were about to fix the last few details, so we can announce it, and then the whole lockdown thing happened. We hope to reschedule all those dates for past pandemic times.

What could one expect from a live Give Me A Reason show?
Energy, positivity and fun! A hella good time!!!

If Give Me A Reason could open for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
I would say Green Day. We have all listed and admired Green Day since young years, and 3 out of us 4 started playing their instruments cause of them!

Has Give Me A Reason ever played in the States? If so, what was the experience like?
Sadly, no! We hope to come over the pond very soon!!

What do you hope 2021 brings for Give Me A Reason?
We are working hard to make our live show even bigger and more special than we already prepared, so we hope that 1. touring is gonna be allowed again and 2. that we can hop on a tour with some of your favorite bands.

Any final words of wisdom?
Wear a f***ing mask!!!
