Legs Diamond at Ultimate Jam Night Honors Mikeal Maglieri – Live Review

Legs Diamond, Ultimate Jam Night Honors Mikeal Maglieri, The Whisky, West Hollywood, CA., December 5, 2023

A very special edition of the long running Ultimate Jam Night took place at the Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip, celebrating the life and times of Mikeal Maglieri. The owner of the iconic Whisky and the equally legendary Rainbow Bar & Grill passed away on November 5th at the age of 73, and what a legacy he created for music fans all over the world to enjoy. The all-star lineup featured some of the very best the industry has to offer, highlighted by the appearances of Robby Krieger of The Doors, acclaimed actor Dennis Quaid, and a brilliant opening set by the one and only Legs Diamond!

The history of Legs Diamond goes back to 1975, and the band would soon release three well received albums through Mercury Records. Later on they would find themselves presenting music through Metal Blade and AOR Heaven, keeping the Legs Diamond dynasty alive and thriving throughout the years. And now in 2023, Legs Diamond arrived at the Whisky with a lineup that was on fire and ready to rock the early arrivals!

What a solid lineup the band maintains, including original members Michael Prince on keyboards and guitar, Jeff Poole on drums, and Roger Romeo on guitar at the very height of their musical prowess. Joining the Legs Diamond gang is the amazing Adam Kury of Candlebox on bass and most recent accomplice in crime Keith England on lead vocals. England has worked with the likes of The Allman Brothers Band, Spinal Tap’s bassist Derek Smalls, and as has appeared at many an Ultimate Jam Night – and he is absolutely dynamic fronting the almighty Legs Diamond. Opening with the stunning one-two punch of Rock Doktor and Satin Peacock, Legs Diamond clearly won over the capacity crowd with a powerhouse rock and roll assault to the senses.

And the kickass songs kept on arriving, including rapturous renditions of Stage Fright, Underworld King, and Woman. Each and every musician brought their experience and passion for their craft into the proceedings and delivered the raging goods tenfold. Concluding the set with a slamming rendition of Nervous from their 1990 magnum opus Town Bad Girl, Legs Diamonds showed there is a whole lot of rock and shred to be found within their ongoing hard rock and roll saga. Here’s hoping we hear a lot more from this criminally underrated band in the future!
