Implicit Bias at 33rd Hill Music Hall – Live Review
Implicit Bias, 33rd Hill Music Hall, Los Angeles, CA., January 18, 2025
Julian Crawford, drummer of the amazing local band Seaside Screams, invited Highwire Daze to check out his other band Implicit Bias. Performing at 33rd Hill Music Hall and presented by Secondhand Productions, this very special event was a benefit for LA Food Bank for Wildfire Relief. Definitely a show I did not want to miss.
Before we launch into the Implicit Bias review, I just would like to say that I really enjoyed the opening band Evisceration. Thrashing it out with a dynamic sense of force and intrigue, this massively talented young band is one I will keep an eye on in the future. Very solid performances from Milan on guitar, Beckett Seals on vocals and bass, Jøzef on guitar, and Damien on drums! You can bet I’ll be checking out another one of their shows soon!
And holy hell, what a fantastic performance Implicit Bias unleashed within the walls of the 33rd Hill Music Hall! Playing their own very spirited brand of hardcore and thrash, this youthful band took these age-old genres and sent them all into the stratosphere! Opening song Soldier called the battalion to order, and what would follow was a super intensive set of pure sonic aggression!
Julian Crawford is an amazing drummer for Seaside Screams, and as the front man for Implicit Bias, he exudes a ton of charisma and drive. Delivering the vocals with a stunning ferocity, Julian really makes you stand up and take notice. Seaside Screams guitarist Adrien Cruz Jones switches over to drums for Implicit Bias, slamming out the beats with epic precision and flair. Bodhi Younger unleashes exhilarating guitar work and a very cool mohawk to boot! And then there’s Jem Renaud, delivering an absolutely reverberating low end on bass. Together these guys rock it hard and heavy with a brilliant sense of chaos and conviction!
In addition to all very kickass original tunes such as Wishing Well and Apple Bees, Implicit Bias raged into a thrilling cover of Filler by the legendary Minor Threat. Implicit Bias definitely have the look, drive, and talent to go the distance – it will be exciting to see what the future has in store for this very promising band on the rise.
A very special thank you to Chrysta Powell of Secondhand Productions for your support of our local music scene and providing a safe space for the many talented young bands and artists here in our community.
