Tony Fennell of When In Rome II

When In Rome II

There are clearly two versions of When In Rome – the one featuring original lead vocalist Clive Farrington, and then this one featuring founding keyboardist Michael Floreale. When In Rome II also features the participation of current lead vocalist Tony Fennell, who has spent quality time within the ranks of Ultravox and E’nuff Z’nuff. This version of the classic new wave band is absolutely magical, with this duo front and center unveiling quite a majestic performance on at the Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip.

Opening with the haunting Metropolis from their recent When In Rome II full-lengther, the band proceeded to enrapture The Whisky with an alternative rock / new wave performance for the ages. Included in the set was a brilliant rendition of Let’s Dance by the one and only David Bowie. And with Tony Fennell once being a member of Ultravox, When In Rome II presented the audience with two very special Ultravox covers – All Stood Still and Sleepwalk – both from the classic Vienna album.  What a treat to hear these songs live again!

Michael Floreale of When In Rome II

Of course, all were awaiting the When In Rome hits, and the duo of Fennel and Floreale delivered exactly what the audience wanted to hear. Heaven Knows was warmly received by The Whisky attendees. A grand and classic rendition of The Promise was also performed, sounding just as fresh and exciting as the day it was released and then rediscovered through the much revered Napolean Dynamite film.

Tony Fennel is such an inspired addition to this amazing chapter of When In Rome II and Michael Floreale keeps the legacy alive and vibrant with his shimmering keyboard work and wonderful new music. When In Rome II is looking forward to even greater glories ahead while fully embracing the songs that has made them world renowned.
