Jensen Gering has only just turned eighteen, yet the sheer talent he and his band projected from the stage felt like the culmination of several lifetimes of musical influence. This was no teen‑pop novelty act — Jensen and his band arrived fully formed, fully confident, and fully ready to rock. What followed was an exhilarating detonation of sound within the hallowed walls of The Troubadour.

Gering has come a long way since his Erin & Aaron days on Nickelodeon. His artistic ascent was unmistakable the moment he and his band stepped onto the stage, greeted by a packed house buzzing with anticipation.

They opened with an inspired, high‑octane cover of “Last Night” by The Strokes, instantly locking the audience into a familiar, driving groove. But the real revelation came with Jensen’s original material — songs he’s been quietly honing and now unveiling with confidence. “Spare Change,” “On The Line,” and “Girlfriend” showcased a songwriter with a sharp melodic instinct and a band capable of elevating every hook.

One of the evening’s standout moments was “Will,” written and performed with co‑vocals by the wonderfully talented Duke Cutler, whose presence added texture and emotional lift. Cutler — who fronts his own band, Spin, a project worth keeping an eye on — proved to be a dynamic counterpart to Jensen throughout the night.

The band then tore into a swagger‑filled rendition of the Rolling Stones classic “Beast of Burden,” with Jensen delivering the song’s slow‑burn intensity and soulful grit like a seasoned frontman. Beyond his captivating vocals and vibrant stage presence, Gering’s guitar work was imaginative, expressive, and intensive. Cutler matched him measure for measure, the two guitarists weaving between lead and rhythm with precision and flair.
Anchoring it all was a rhythm section with serious magnetism: Ben Dawson on bass, laying down tight, melodic lines, and Hunter LaPlante on drums, whose crisp, propulsive playing gave every song its heartbeat.

The night closed with a one‑two punch of “Throwdown” and “Wherever,” leaving no doubt that Jensen Gering is becoming one of the most compelling young artists on the Los Angeles scene. There’s a restlessness in his performance — the kind that signals an artist on the verge of something bigger, something stratospheric.
