An Auditory Journey Through Divided Minds

An Auditory Journey Through Divided Minds

Based out of Phoenix, Arizona, Divided Minds is ready to break out all across the nation in an epic way.  Their Mood Swings EP has just been released through We Are Triumphant, featuring an auditory journey of emotionally driven pop punk anthems that music fans will want to revisit time and again.

Highwire Daze Online recently caught up with lead singer/rhythm guitarist Sean Collins to find out a whole lot more about this dynamic new band on the rise.  Read on…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Divided Minds, and how long the band has been together.
Hey, I’m Sean. I’m the lead singer and rhythm guitarist. We’ve been playing for 4 years.

Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like that?
We’re based out of Phoenix, Arizona. The music scene here is competitive to say the least. It’s tough to find support out here but once you do, you find some of the best people in the world.

How did you wind up signing to We Are Triumphant?
So our producer, Curtis Douglas, found out about us somehow-to be honest, none of us remember how-and he thought we were dope and wanted to work with us. Curtis knows our now A&R guy, Ross Robey, and told him about us and he also liked us. So Ross picks us up and gets us in touch with Greg Long, the CEO of We Are Triumphant and he signed us.

Is there any overall story or concept behind the EP title Mood Swings?
There isn’t so much a story as there is a theme that connects the whole thing together. The title, Mood Swings reflects the tone of the journey the songs take you on. The EP consists of both poppy songs and punk ones that are meant to play with your emotions the whole way through.

What inspired the lyrics for Take My Hand?
Take My Hand” is about a past girlfriend of Josh’s. He wrote the song about the good times he had with this girl and how he wanted to hold on to them forever. The song is even more meaningful because, tragically, she passed away this past year. So “Take My Hand” means even more to us because music stays forever, so that means that she will live on forever in this song.

Who did the cover art for Mood Swings and how much input did you have on it?
The cover art was done by an artist named Jimmy Breen. I gave him the bones of the picture. I wanted it to be a little girl standing in a derelict home peering out at a beautiful landscape. He took that idea and made an incredible picture with his own style.

What could one expect from a live Divided Minds show?
The most important thing at a Divided Minds show is energy. We keep the energy up from the moment we walk on stage to the moment we walk off. We take you on an emotional journey with our songs and keep your heart racing the whole time. The second most important aspect is crowd participation. You don’t come to one of our shows to watch us perform, you perform with us.

If Divided Minds could open for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
Definitely A Day To Remember. They’re by far our biggest influence sonically and we’re all huge fans and would love to get to hang out with them and share a stage with them.

Any chance to see Divided Minds here in Southern California or on tour soon?
We’re definitely looking into touring this summer, and SoCal is a must!

If the music of Divided Minds was a donut, what could would it be and why?
We’d be that donut that’s like one the last one in the dozen that you assume is raspberry jam filled or some bs but then you decide to eat it and it turns out to be cream filled and you’re like hell yeah.

What’s up next for Divided Minds?
Touring and writing even better music. We want to see the world and hustle our asses off.

Any final words of wisdom?
Be humble, work hard, don’t be a dick.
