Restless Streets: On A Highway Called Perseverance
Restless Streets: On A Highway Called Perseverance
Restless Streets has experienced a lot of ups and downs within their near decade of existence. After releasing a trio of vastly underrated recordings on InVogue Records, the Albany-based collective find themselves pursuing other exciting opportunities. With a passion for their music and art, Restless Streets has been on a highway named perseverance, documenting their epic journey on two brand new songs entitled A Little More Us and In Vogue. We caught up with Restless Streets’ charismatic front man Logan Carpenter to find out more about their ongoing auditory adventures. Read on…
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Restless Streets, and how long the band has been together.
My name is Logan Carpenter. I am the singer of Restless Streets. Brandon and I have been playing together since we were 14, and 15 years old. We’ve been writing music together for about 10 years.
Where is your band based out of and what is your local music scene like there? Any local bands you could recommend?
We are from Albany, New York. The scene is very diverse right now, and there are a lot of talented acts making waves. A few local bands we are currently digging are Like Lions, Young Culture, Downswing, Viewpoints, Summer Legs, and The Steadfast Son.
Is there any story or concept behind your recently released song “In Vogue”?
The music industry is very unforgiving, and every musician is faced with challenges along the way to success. This song is a condensed look through 3-year window of time in our lives. We have been through so much together as a band. As musicians, we felt very strongly about something we experienced, and we chose to write about it. Too many people bottle their emotions up and have trouble sticking up for themselves. We wrote this song to show people that it is okay to talk about your problems, and to never to be afraid or intimidated when voicing your opinion.
Select any other new Restless Streets song and what inspired the lyrics.
We are dropping a brand new single along with a music video called (A Little More Us) and some awesome new clothing on March 16th. The song was inspired by the realization that we must rise above the tribal mindset and recognize our responsibility to contribute to the well being of others. In the song, we talk about finding someone again after they made a decision to leave you in the past. The song suggests that even though someone may be “caught up in the wave” or seemingly distant and distracted for a period of time, love will always cut through the clutter, and lead their heart back to where it ultimately belongs. This song speaks about coming to terms with the past, and making the decision to let your soul guide you.
How will the music on the upcoming EP compare with what was released on InVogue Records?
Our new music is much different than our past releases. We came together and wrote songs that made us feel good. We definitely created a new flavor for ourselves. I think we’ve always wanted to write songs like this. We like to listen to music that brings back fond memories. We feel like these new songs will give our fans a nostalgic, exciting feeling that they’ve been missing from their favorite bands that made this genre popular.
What could one expect from a live Restless Streets 2017 show?
We want our live show to make people feel excited, and free to experience it however they’d like. We want to see people dancing, smiling, kissing, laughing. We just bought a carnival style cotton candy machine for our merch table, so you can expect a lot of that flying around.
Any strange or scary stories on the road or at a show you could share?
One time on our way back home from Poughkeepsie, New York we had a trailer tire blow and there were a bunch of people in the van partying. It was really loud and it jerked the van around pretty violently. We were also terrified for our expensive gear inside. Luckily everything was cool. We had to leave the trailer at a shop due to a bent axle and we drove back to pick it up the next day. Everyone carried on with their business on the way home.
Has Restless Streets played in LA/OC or plan to do so in the future?
We have yet to play LA/OC. We will be traveling and playing as many shows as possible this summer.
What do you think has kept Restless Streets so alive and impassioned over the years – especially with so many ups and downs throughout that time?
We are all brothers. We naturally get along, and our passion is writing and playing music. It hasn’t been anything but instinctive to keep grinding, and doing what makes us feel good.
Logan, will you be writing and recording any more music for solo acoustic projects?
I will be releasing a new solo song this spring with a really cool magazine. The song was really fun to write, and I’m stoked to be able to show fans a different side of my vocal style.
What’s up next for Restless Streets in 2017?
We have a ton of content to reveal to our followers, and we couldn’t be more enthusiastic to hit the road. We have just signed with UAC MANAGEMENT (Kevin “Thrasher” Gruft of Escape The Fate, and Hristo Penchev). We have known Kevin for years and we are super excited to be affiliated with these two hard working gentlemen. We will be coming to a city near you soon.
