THE SELECTER & THE ENGLISH BEAT FEAT. RANKING ROGER CO-HEADLINE TOUR EXTENDS INTO 2018 WITH NORTH AMERICAN DATES THIS FALL!
New York, NY – May 15th, 2018 – With runs in Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia and Germany already complete, 2 Tone pioneers The Selecter and The English Beat Feat. Ranking Roger are excited to announce a North American leg of their co-headline tour, hitting the West Coast this Fall. Both bands will play full sets of their hits and more each night, followed by a joint encore. Originally a six-date tour in the UK and EU last year, the legendary acts teamed-up to play nearly 40 dates together due to phenomenal demand – including SOLD OUT shows at London’s iconic Roundhouse and Amsterdam’s Melkweg, selling nearly 40,000 tickets. Life-long friends, they are two of the main bands to come out of 2 Tone – a crucial musical and cultural movement which is still as relevant today as it was over 30 years ago.
The Selecter is led by their iconic frontwoman Pauline Black and co-fronted by original member Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson. The anarchic passion that fuelled Selecter gigs during the 2 Tone era is still there, except the pair are more driven than ever. Their confidence is sky-high and they’re also writing the best songs of their career, which is saying something given the enduring popularity of hits like “Three Minute Hero,” “Missing Words,” “Too Much Pressure” and “On My Radio.” The Selecter most recently toured the US last Summer with Rancid and Dropkick Murphys and Pauline Black toured in Latin America as a special guest with Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz. In October 2017 The Selecter released their studio full-length Daylight – their most urgent, politically engaged and purely uplifting record since the days of Too Much Pressure and Celebrate The Bullet. Not only a crucial figure in the music community, Black is also a published author, gifted actress, and a celebrated style icon – earlier this year VOGUE featured Duro Olowu’s new Pauline Black-inspired fashion line.
The English Beat Feat. Ranking Roger released their spectacular fourth album Bounce (the first in over 30 years) in September 2016. The album shows off every gleaming aspect of one of the most musically diverse bands to come out of the multiracial, multicultural explosion that remade British pop from 1979 onwards. Joining Ranking Roger (also a founding member of General Public) in the revitalised band is his son Ranking Junior AKA Matthew Murphy, a powerhouse MC who brings an update on the toasting that made Ranking Roger such a pivotal part of the original Beat. The same energy that drove the hit singles of the 80s like “Mirror in the Bathroom,” “Too Nice To Talk To,” “Can’t Get Used To Losing You” and “Hands off She’s Mine,” is found again on Bounce and the band are currently working on a brand new studio album.
The Selecter and The English Beat Feat. Ranking Roger are excited to bring their momentous co-headline tour to North America this Fall, tickets are on sale Friday, May 18th and you can find all of the confirmed dates below. Both bands will release Live Albums this June, recorded at their sold-out London show – the live recording will be available via CD/DVD, Heavyweight Double Vinyl and Limited Edition Coloured Splatter Vinyl, both with a Bonus DVD.
